The Bathers Beach arrival zone at Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour has been transformed! And for Nick Unmack, owner of the iconic , it's personal. His family has been part of this harbour for generations. Now there's a place to park your bike, find some shade, sit and stay a while.

But the real heart of this project is the artwork. "Tenacity" by artists Tony Jones and Jo Darbyshire honours the late Tony Unmack, Nick's father, and a true harbour identity.

This project was delivered by Town Team Movement in collaboration with the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure,.forever.project, Ventia and the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour business community. A real example of government trialling and prototyping while longer-term planning takes shape.

Streets, skyscrapers, shops - whatever they dream up. Zero budget. Maximum imagination. Box City is a quick, cheap, family friendly activity that can keep the kids amused for ages, allowing parents to relax and chat.

INGREDIENTS:
Empty cardboard boxes
Gaffer tape
Scissors
An empty space (e.g. a park, street verge or car park)

METHOD
1. Collect empty cardboard boxes from shops, department stores or residents. Tip – whitegoods boxes are fantastic!
2. Tape them up and then put them into a space to play with.
3. Add some extras for adults likes drinks, music or a food truck

Doing felt a little different in the Adelaide Hills this month. More creativity. More connection. More action. Over 40 community-led activities came to life across the Hills for the Day of Doing, delivered through our partnership with that explored what is possible when we make it easy for people to contribute to community life.

The results were inspiring! Neighbours meeting for the first time. Young people stepping up to run movie nights and music events. Community halls reactivated. Busy bees refurbishing clubs. Trees and native species planted. New sharing sheds built. Family groups formed. Wellness events hosted. All over one day.

How? By creating the conditions for participation. More trust. No lengthy forms. Pre-approved activities. Fewer barriers. Up to $500 and permission to act. A powerful reminder that when people feel welcomed, trusted and enabled, communities flourish.

Thank you to every doer who showed up 🧡 And thank you to for trusting us to explore new ways for local government and community to work together🧡

That’s a wrap on the 2026 Festival of Doing! 🧡 What an incredible few days of learning, connecting, creating and doing together.

Hundreds of doers, changemakers, community leaders, local governments, creatives and everyday people came together across Bentley and St James to explore how we can create better, safer, more vibrant and more connected places - together.

From inspiring conversations with global placemaking leaders and hands on streetmaking, to community activations, workshops, storytelling, art, networking and celebrations of local innovation - this Festival was a powerful reminder that real change happens when people step up, collaborate and get involved.

Thank you to every single person who attended, presented, volunteered, shared ideas, rolled up their sleeves and brought such incredible energy, generosity and optimism to the Festival. You made this event special. 💥

And a heartfelt thank you to the amazing partners and supporters who helped make the Festival possible.

This is your sign to grab some rocks and paint. 🐍🎨 A rock snake is one of our favourite quick wins - a simple, fun community art project that gets neighbours involved, adds a little colour to your street and gives kids (and adults, let's be honest) something to be proud of. Start the snake. Leave it somewhere visible. Watch your community add to it.

INGREDIENTS:
River stones or rocks
Paint
Paint brushes
Creativity

METHOD
1. Determine where your rock snake will slither, is it going to be a permanent installation with the rocks cemented in; or a temporary snake where the rocks can be rearranged and added to?
2. Leave a note to engage your community to paint rocks to form your snake; this is a fantastic activity for all ages to participate in
