I’ve been exploring the deeper civic purpose behind VoteWrap, beyond the mechanics of voting on bills to deliver a properly functioning democracy.

This article explains the core idea: that society is already having the conversation, but it is scattered across millions of disconnected fragments. VoteWrap is intended to become the mirror that allows society to see and hear itself thinking.

Arthur A. Chresby, Federal Member for Griffith (Queensland) from 1958 to 1961, was also a research analyst in constitutional law.

He concluded that if a political party causes an elected Member of Parliament to vote contrary to the will of the voters who elected them, then that party is acting both unconstitutionally and illegally.

Which means that modern party-controlled politics stands in direct conflict with genuine democratic representation.

This a model for properly functioning democracy that combines the best of direct and representative channels and allows voters to be engaged to the extent that suits them either directly or via proxy and legally binds the elected representative to the majority will of the voters in each electorate.

For a Representative Democracy to be a properly functioning democracy there needs to be an effective, efficient & timely way for the voters of each electorate to tell their Representative how they want them to vote on Bills before Parliament.
