Mad Wheels Youth

Mad Wheels Youth Teaching Practical Mechanical Skills while giving support and hope to Young Tasmanians. The program

MAD Wheels started with a $100 note and a vision to help the community. It has now grown into a fully kitted out automotive workshop within the Coats Patons Central Storage facility. Not only do we train young people to develop practical mechanical skills. We offer tailored courses for both male and female students from late primary through to secondary school students. Programs include a basic in

troduction to cert 1 automotive, women for wheels’ program and bicycle Workshop Course. Each course is flexible in its delivery; students can book in for a year or just a term, one day a week or part day only on a regular basis, depending on the student’s needs. Mad Wheels Youth does not rely on any government funding and provides its service on a user pays system; each student needs to pay for the hours they attend. The service given at Mad Wheels Youth is of high standard and value due to the fact that most of the staff are volunteers that have extensive mechanical knowledge. Due to this structure there is a low teacher-student ratio, allowing for more one on one training; giving the students a greater chance of success.

Madwheels Youth has operated for the last nine years in providing an education program for students interested in mechanics. Over this period, students from every high school and some private schools, in and around the Launceston area has participated in this program, receiving positive mentoring and encouragement from a dedicated team of volunteers.

We have now come to an end of an era, where our teacher, Mr Chris Brooks, has decided to retire from this position. In addition to this Mr. John Powell is stepping down as Principal of Madwheels Youth.

Our appreciation is extended to staff and volunteers who have given their time and expertise in supporting schools and developing young people.

Madwheels Youth will be going into recess as from term 1 of 2022, with the intention of reviewing its program and restructuring its organisation so that better outcomes will be provided for students.

This review will be under the leadership of Mr Troy Roberts who is the Chief Operations Officer of the Resource Ministry Board, Door of Hope Christian Church. The intention is that Madwheels Youth will be in recess for a short period of time and that you will be notified as soon as possible of the re-commencement date.
