It was great to be at the start of Matt Dingjan’s 200k run to Hobart to support mental health. This was a huge effort to raise both funds and awareness, supporting Speak up and stay chatty. Having a personal journey in this space and recently attending funerals where young men have chosen to leave us, this journey has great meaning . It was a huge honour to send him on his way and run the first couple of kms.
If you can jump over to his page and any support you can give is going to a worthy cause. Matt a fantastic effort by you and your family, a great team effort. Already raised in excess of $38k

Another impactful ANZAC day which deepens the ANZAC spirit in this country. The number of people that turn out to pay homage to our service men and women (and their families) continues to grow and highlight the value of the sacrifices made by so many. Wouldn’t it be lovely if we didn’t see conflict as means of resolving issues amongst and within nations. As John Lennon said “give peace a chance” “Lest we Forget”

It’s great when you can wear your community hat with other things you do. Yesterday at he MACS garden at Ravenswood Steve Edmunds from Crisp Brothers opened the retractable bridge across the creek into the MACS garden and wearing my Cape Hope Foundation hat I opened the Food Forest. It is amazing to see where this project has gone under the watchful and passionate eye of Pete Richards this whole area has been converted from a gorse infested site to now a significant food producing enterprise which benefits the whole Ravenswood community. A shout at to my colleague Councillor Andrew Palmer who also makes a great contribution to the Northern Suburbs

Another Great Cancer Council of Tasmania 5k walk/run, starting in our beautiful City Park. Over $100k raised again, well done everyone and congratulations to Alison and her team for all you do. Also a big shout out to all the sponsors who are vital to make events like this happen.
Finally, a thought for those who lost their battle, they are not forgotten, 24 years this month that I lost my mum to this insidious disease, hearteningly with today’s medical advancements she probably would have survived. Organisations like Cancer Council Tasmania are at the forefront in keeping research for cures while delivering care.Let’s hope there will be a day when we find the cure and they won’t be necessary, but until then keep up the good work.

Another great day out at the Northern Suburbs Community Centre celebrating our Boomerang Baggers and what they do for our community to reduce the use of plastic. They provide bags now to the Borland’s IGA, so if you forget your bag (for a $2 donation) you can pick up your Boomerang bag to take your groceries home. The $2 donated will be recycled into environmental projects in the Northern Suburbs. A fantastic effort from a community group.
