The Deloraine Dramatic Society will host the FESTIVAL OF ONE ACT PLAYS on SATURDAY 17th OCTOBER at the Little Theatre in Deloraine.

SESSION TIMES: Matinee 2pm & Evening 7pm.
(different plays are presented in each session)

TICKETS:
Single session: Adult $15 / Concession $10
Both sessions: Adult $25 / Concession $15

LOCATION:
The Little Theatre, Meander Valley Performing Arts Centre, 2 Meander Valley Road, Deloraine.

PLEASE BE AWARE: Some plays contain strong (very strong!) language and adult themes.

W**e, tea and coffee will be available for purchase prior to each session and during session intervals.

There will be an awards presentation party on Saturday night after the final show. All who attend the Festival are welcome to join the celebrations.

The Festival of One Act Plays showcases short plays written and/or produced by theatre groups from across Tasmania and the mainland. The Festival has a rich history of nurturing talent and promoting the dramatic arts, providing a platform for both seasoned playwrights and emerging talents to showcase their creativity and passion for the theatre arts.

To mark our centenary, we’re delighted to have a special Launceston Players 100 Years Exhibition at the Launceston Library, celebrating a century of productions, performers, costumes, memories and the many people who have helped bring theatre to life since 1926.

If you’ve ever performed with us, worked backstage, helped with a production, sat in our audiences - or simply love local theatre and Launceston history - we’d love you to come along and take a look.

The Exhibition is open on the 1st Floor of the Launceston Library from 18 September to 13 November, 2026

🏆 LOST CUP ALERT! 🕵️‍♂️ We need your help, Tasmania! By golly we have a mystery intertwined with our history!
From 1947 to 1971, the Tasmanian Drama Festivals were the absolute peak of the theatre calendar. The biggest prize of them all? The legendary Catherine Duncan Cup—awarded to the winning play of the festival in honour of Tassie's most famous actress and playwright. But we have a classic theatre mystery on our hands... the Cup is completely missing! 😱Did it end up in a prop room? Is it sitting in someone's garage? Did a winner celebrate a little too hard in 1971 and forget where they put it? If you have ANY clues to its whereabouts, please help us solve the mystery and email our secretary at:📧 [email protected]

This special building is where the Launceston players staged the very first production of “Nothing But the Truth” The Academy of Music was later developed into the luxurious Plaza cinema in 1932 where it operated until it’s demolition in 1964. Want to delve into more about this building? Our friends at the Launceston Historical Society, Tasmania have a wonderful write up about it.

Meet our Director, Jesse Apted

Every case requires a mind willing to take on the impossible. A man who looks at limited resources and sees not a problem, but a puzzle to be solved.
Jesse Apted is our director and if you tell him it's an ambitious undertaking for a first full-length production, he will tell you that is rather the point. Armed with little more than a challenge, a few months of searching, and one fateful visit to a bookshop, he found exactly the right script: a story driven not by lavish sets or elaborate lighting, but by the imagination of the actors and the audience alike.
The result, I am told, is wonderfully, gloriously silly and all the better for it.
Watson and I look forward to seeing what he has made of us.

Meet the Cast!

Dear Follower,

Watson has asked me, the Sherlock Holmes, to say a few words about the man who will be portraying me. I find the entire concept faintly absurd. And yet, I must concede the fellow is qualified.

Matt Harris is a Tasmanian Theatre Award winner twice over, a composer, a sound designer, and a man who recently wrote and staged an entire musical. His credentials are, I will grudgingly admit, not inconsiderable.
Whether he can do me justice is a question only the stage can answer.
