Cheers to 40 years 🥳

On Friday, we celebrated 40 years of Rural Business Tasmania and of walking beside rural businesses. It was a special evening of reflection, celebration and lots of laughter.

🏆 We also acknowledged current Chief Executive Officer, Elizabeth Skirving, who has been with Rural Business Tasmania for 20 years. Her dedication and commitment have shaped Rural Business Tasmania into the organisation we are today.

Thank you to our honoured guests Premier Jeremy Rockliff, Primary Industries Minister Gavin Pearce and Senator Chris Gatenby for attending.

🐝 Help shape Tasmania's preparedness for varroa mite.

Tasmania remains free of varroa mite, but the pest is now established on mainland Australia.

To help ensure Tasmania is prepared, Biosecurity Tasmania has released a draft Varroa destructor Initial Response Plan (Investigation and Alert Phase) for public consultation.

The draft Plan outlines how a suspected detection may be investigated, contained and assessed, and how decisions about eradication or ongoing management may be made.

Biosecurity Tasmania are inviting beekeepers, growers, industry organisations and community members to review the draft Plan and have their say.
📅 Submissions close 5.00 pm 1 November 2026
