Rostrum Launceston Rostrum is a club devoted to assisting its members to develop their public speaking skills. This page is to promote the Rostrum clubs in Launceston (9&14)

Welcome to Rostrum in Launceston. Rostrum is an organisation dedicated to helping its members find their voice. If you need to improve your public speaking skills, hone your skills at speech writing or business meeting procedure or if you just need to boost your confidence, look no further than Rostrum. Launceston has two Rostrum Clubs meeting over breakfast every week. On Tuesdays you'll find Club 14 meeting at Kameo Coffee Lounge in St John Street. On Thursdays you'll find Club 9 meeting at Samuel Pepy's Café in Yorktown Square. We wanted to share something special with you.

This is Kat, one of our Rostrum members.

On the weekend, Kat had the opportunity to deliver a 30-second impromptu talk at TEDx Hobart.

Just six months ago, she says she would never have put her hand up for something like this. But thanks to the skills and confidence she's gained through Rostrum, she was able to step onto the stage with no preparation and trust that whatever came out would be enough.

In her own words, "Six months ago my mind would have gone blank. I would have forgotten what I wanted to say, mumbled my way through it, said 'um' a hundred times, and there was no way I could have communicated a clear message in just 30 seconds."

Kat wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone at Rostrum. The encouragement, feedback, and supportive community have helped her grow in ways she never imagined.

Congratulations, Kat! We're incredibly proud of what you've achieved and can't wait to see where your public speaking journey takes you next.

At Rostrum, every fortnight offers something different.

Some meetings focus on members practising speeches and receiving constructive feedback from experienced speakers and coaches. Other meetings include lessons designed to help members improve specific public speaking skills.

For example, Lib presented a lesson on how to organise and structure a speech—an important skill for anyone wanting to communicate their ideas clearly and effectively.

Whether you're preparing presentations for work, speaking at community events, or simply wanting to build confidence, Rostrum provides a practical environment to learn, practise, and improve.

If you'd like to become a more confident speaker, come along to a meeting and see what Rostrum has to offer.

The next meeting is on the 16th of June.

Another inspiring morning at Rostrum Club 14.

Last week, Olivia delivered a beautiful speech about memories and the meaning they hold in our lives. ❤️

Olivia reflected on experiences such as recently completing a 60km race on Bruny Island and becoming the world record holder for the most pull-ups completed in 24 hours. While these are incredible achievements in themselves, the speech wasn’t really about records or results, it was about the memories created through the struggle, the people around us, the lessons learned, and the moments that stay with us long after the finish line.

Her speech was a reminder that memories are far more than moments in time, they shape who we are, connect us to people we love, and often become the stories we carry with us forever.

One of the wonderful things about Rostrum is hearing the different perspectives, stories, and life experiences shared through public speaking. Every speech has the power to inspire, teach, and spark reflection.

Another great morning at Rostrum Club 14.

Today we had two interviews as part of our meeting. In the first interview, we learnt a lot more about one of our members, Anne — from her childhood and raising her kids, to her love of reading and why she’s chosen to make Tasmania home. It was a warm and interesting conversation that helped us all get to know her better.

In the second interview, Lib interviewed Kat in preparation for an upcoming radio interview. Practising together gave Kat Kingsley the chance to refine her responses and receive thoughtful feedback from the group, helping her walk away feeling more confident and ready to add even more value for her listeners.
