We are an independent not-for-profit promotional agency striving to bring vibrancy to Launceston CBD, working with local businesses to showcase the best our city has to offer. Our organisation has been around for over 30 years. You may have known us as Cityprom, from events such as NORTH Festival and Slice-a-licious, or from projects such as The Lounge and Love Launnie. We're a small team but we run a big website - did you know that launcestoncentral.com.au hosts the only complete directory of all Launnie CBD businesses? Not only that, we've personally written descriptions for each of them. We’ve also done the hard work for you and gathered details of the best events happening in the heart of Launceston. FAQ:

Something delicious is coming to Launceston and you won’t want to miss it!

From 5-8 November, agriCULTURED, Tasmania’s Festival of Food, will be cooking up a storm across the C*D and beyond. If you’re quick, you might still be able to bag a ticket or two to:

🍽️ 5 Nov: The Laneway Dinner at Tatler Lane
See Tatler Lane transformed into an outdoor dining room and eat under the stars. Over three hours you’ll feast on exceptional local produce and learn how it plays homage to the stories of our region. Tatler Lane by Sweetbrew

👩‍🍳 6 Nov: Conversations at The Albert Hall Launceston
For those interested in how the way what we eat is shaped by forces beyond the kitchen, “Conversations” gives you a morning of thought-provoking presentations from six speakers, including artist and creator Kirsha Kaechele, followed by a delicious long lunch by Hubert & Dan in the Albert Hall’s new East Wing.

🧑‍🌾 6 Nov: The Science Behind your Plate at Bluestone Bar and Kitchen
Over four-courses journey beyond paddock to plate as acclaimed guest chef Cameron Matthews presents a menu celebrating the connection between agricultural innovation and culinary excellence.

🦪 7 Nov: Salt Stories at Mudbar Restaurant celebrates one of our favourite Tassie ingredients - oysters! Optionally paired with Tassie sparkling, this story begins in Tasmania’s pristine waters with a local oyster producer, sharing how oysters are grown and gathered. Mudbar’s chefs will invite you into the conversation as they shuck, prepare, and share oysters prepared 4 different ways.

⛪ You might have noticed a warm red glow coming from the old art deco Gospel Hall on Elizabeth St. Venture inside and you'll now find Hanashi Bar - a brand new Tasmanian izakaya ⛩️

Never been to an izakaya? Think of it as Japan's answer to a laneway bar - a place for casual drinking and small, shareable plates that keep coming as long as you keep ordering, rather than one big meal on one big plate.

Ii Hanashi Izakaya blends the qualities of two distant, isolated islands: Tassie and Japan 🗾 Neon lights up traditional tonkotsu ramen, made with fresh Tasmanian ingredients 🍜 Shochu sours arrive infused with Tasmanian mountain pepper. Meiji-era woodblock paintings depict the opening of Allgoods in 1956. Even Launcestonian gets translated into Japanese. Consider this the first intercontinental miso ramen pipeline, from Tokyo to Launceston!

Tucked away inside you'll find a bowls of steaming ramen, a not-so-secret karaoke bar, and an extensive wh**ky menu 🍜🎤🥃

Hanashi takes the very essence of the izakaya, the liveliness, the randomness, the colour and the noise, and does something Japanese-Tasmanian with it. It brings it together with you, over a locally brewed rice l***r and a good story.

💛 It's a big month for some of our favourite people.

We’re celebrating our seniors all October with COTA (Council On The Ageing) Tasmania , and taking a week to thank the carers quietly looking after the people they love.

From morning teas and community lunches to art, music, walking groups, workshops, open days and much more, COTA (Council On The Ageing) Tasmania has something for everyone with some events online as well. Whether you’re looking to try something new, meet new people, reconnect with your community or simply enjoy a great day out, Seniors Month is your invitation to get involved.

👧👦 Little Food Festival (14-15 Oct) is making its debut in Launceston on Wednesday. This is the first time the kid's food festival has gone on tour outside of Melbourne and we're so excited to welcome them to Civic Square 10am-4pm (Wed and Thu). The festival teaches budding foodies all about where their food comes from, from growing veggies all the way to cooking and eating them. 📖 Kicking off with their launch event on Thursday, Tamar Valley Writers Festival (15-19 Oct) are feeding your soul this weekend. 🎪 🎊🎈 Get ready for a jam-packed couple of weeks kicking off this show day! From thrill-seeking rides to poetry slams and food festivals, there is a festival for everyone.

Launceston festival of fun has all your classic show day adventures with family-friendly rides, carnival games and beloved show bags! Thursday only brings an interactive circus, balloon art, roaming characters and an animal nursery. Located on Glebe Farm Road behind Youngs Veggie Shed, entry is $3 per person Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Check their page for opening times 🎪

The Tasmanian Poetry Festival is on a mission to bring poetry to the people and people to poetry. The festival starts on Thursday 8th, with QVMAG Inveresk being the festival hub. Saturday is free but ticketed so make sure you reserve your spots. Sessions include: Nanaverse - poetry for children and their guardians, and Haiku Death Match - a poetry competition to see who can out haiku who.

Next week, Little Food Festival brings a line-up of free activities for kids to discover and experience food including entertainment and tasty treats for little foodies.
