Stompin Dance

Stompin Dance Stompin works with young people of Tasmania to create and produce exhilarating dance and arts experiences. Stompin is unique in its performance culture.

Stompin cultivates a non-competitive, Youth Dance environment that encourages young Tasmanians to explore, create and grow as individuals, citizens and artists through their connection with contemporary dance. Stompin is a Youth Dance organisation that has been successfully creating a non-competitive, creative environment for young people grow as artists, individuals and citizens through their con

nection with contemporary dance for over 29 years. A fixture and stalwart of Tasmanian dance and arts ecology, Stompin is the starting point for many Arts Professionals’ trajectory into long-term careers within the arts sector. The company has also seen significant National recognition and traction through its projects and artistic development processes. The environment we generate focuses on cultivating a non-competitive dance environment to help develop young Tasmanian artists, to educate and inspire them for a life either in the arts or as an appreciator of the arts which then filters into the broader, National cultural landscape. Our performance culture brings together our Youth Dance company members with industry professionals, to share their artistic practice and methods and encourage our Stompers to pragmatically integrate different styles when developing their own practice. Stompin develops artists, audiences and community through creating and presenting unforgettable performances in ordinary and extraordinary places.

INTRODUCING OUR NEW ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

We are absolutely thrilled to welcome the wonderful Jacqui Maida to the Stompin family as our new Artistic Director! Jacqui brings passion, vision, and a lifelong dream to this role and we couldn't be more excited about what's ahead.

In Jac's own words: “Since I was young, it has been a big dream of mine to be an Artistic Director, and belonging to Stompin as its AD will be one of the greatest undertakings in my career. I endeavour to lead with the youth voices in mind, and plan to enjoy everything that Lutruwita has to offer.”

Jac will be landing in Lutruwita in early June, and we cannot wait to introduce them to the vibrant, creative community that makes Stompin and our island so special. While you wait, why not learn more about Jac: http://stompin.net/our-team

Please join us in giving Jacqui the warmest of welcomes!

HAPPENING TOMORROW:

‘Bodies on Brick’, Stompin’s first performance for 2026 in the inaugural street art festival in Launceston’s CBD. Made by Jacqui Maida and Gabriel Comerford in collaboration with the dancers, this dynamic 30 minute performance incorporates dance, visual art and site-specific exploration.

Come see us perform at 1:10pm, 4pm and 5:30pm outside the Brisbane St entrance to the Quadrant Mall! And keep an eye out for our white jumpsuits for spatial activations throughout the festival.

This project was made possible by the Australian Governments Regional Arts Fund, which supports the arts in regional and remote Australia.
