Enterprising Aardvark is a free, not-for-profit counselling service for people in Northern Tasmania who have experienced complex early childhood trauma and sexual assault, as well as those people who care for and support them. Enterprising Aardvark focuses on helping clients re-establish their own sense of safety and empowerment. They have more than 40 years of experience working in the sexual assault field.

Sue Wynne, Director of Fund Raising for the Rotary Club of Tamar Sunrise, is passionate about supporting Enterprising Aardvark with this event. “Enterprising Aardvark provides counselling with compassion and evidence-based strategies which are incredibly important in beginning a healing process for survivors. Enterprising Aardvark provides on-going support for children and adults at a no cost, making the service available to those who may not normally be able to access this support. Supporting vulnerable members of our community in their healing and access to support services is a focus of the Rotary Club of Tamar Sunrise. Several of our members work with Domestic/Family violence and sexual abuse survivors and are conscious of the limited services available here in Launceston. We are keen to fundraise for such an important service.”

Lisa, from Enterprise Aardvark is grateful for the support. “Now in our 10th year, we are always so appreciative of the support we get from the community, and the Rotary Club of Tamar Sunrise has very kindly chosen us to support this year! Thank you! We know the huge effort that goes into throwing an event like this, and it sounds like it’s going to be an awesome shindig! As an unfunded, free service for survivors and those who care for them, we approach our work with the understanding that social suffering is not a mental illness, and that communities can achieve so much when we work together, for the good of everyone.

Another fabulous guest speaker at our Florence Cafe breakfast meeting this morning!
Owen Tilbury told us about a wonderful new initiative (from the Great Regional City Challenge in partnership with Launceston Central) being trialled in Launceston; Proud Launcestonians can wear a free badge that reads "I'm Local - Ask Me" signalling to visitors and newcomers that they're happy to help with information on just about anything! You don't need to be an expert, just willing to lend a hand, or to ask someone else if you don't know the answer.

Making meaningful connections, sharing stories, spreading kindness, welcoming visitors and newcomers to our wonderful city;
What a magnificent initiative!

You can get involved by contacting Owen via email: [email protected]

As part of our commitment to support Enterprising Aardvark Counselling and Consultancy Inc. this year we donate $20 to them on behalf of our guest speakers.
(These two wouldn't keep still for the camera! 😆)

We had a fabulous last meeting of the year today. We inducted a new member, Bill Baker and we heard from our own Michelle O'Byrne, about her role as Australian Ambassador for Gender Equality. We are very proud of Michelle and the work she is doing to support the voice of women around the world. Welcome Bill, and a very merry Christmas from all of us at the Rotary Club of Tamar Sunrise.

Tamar Sunrise Rotarians Anita and Sue went on a shopping spree this morning with all the donations we received as part of the recent “Christmas Angels” drive. Your generosity has helped us purchase goodies to be made up into hampers for the Northern Suburbs Community Centre Inc.! Woolworths Prospect Vale generously donated all the Christmas branded items, which was a HUGE help!!

We really appreciate their support, along with every single one of you in our community that pitched in to help make Christmas a little easier for those in need of a hand up. It can be a stressful time of the year when money is tight; it’s our pleasure to be part of the broader Rotary family who strive to be of service, and make a difference in the lives of others.
