Once again the Cane Day 2026 was well supported by both the Fly Tiers and the Flyfishers’ Club.
On the Saturday evening a number of anglers enjoyed a meal at the Miena Pub. Hairy Castles was a guest to talk about his cane building. A few anglers tried their hand at casting on the grass in front of the pub.

On Sunday 27 anglers turned up at the club shack to register and pay their $20. It was a bright blue day with gentle wind. Many fished from boats but many tried their luck along the shore. About 12 fish were caught and some quality fish.

At 4pm everyone gathered at the Club shack for a cold drink and a bbq. Tom Woodley from the Fly Tiers supplied the mob with venison steaks and kangaroo which went down a treat. We thank Tom for his generous offer.

At the conclusion the lucky registration tickets were drawn. Charlie Gall won the whisky donated by Chris Crawford and Peter Rasmussen and Glen Becher won the Gin donated by Mike Steven’s at Essential Fly.

The gathering confirmed that this event needs to continue as it brings our two clubs together for important social interaction.
We are now able to make a $540 donation to Prostate Cancer.

Hope fully we have even more of our members participate next year.

A very pleasant morning on The Isle of Shalom at Grindelwald this morning, practicing our casting accuracy. Watching each other cast brings a whole new dimension to the term 'hit and miss'. I am surprised we catch any fish at all.
Of course followed up by the customary BBQ.
