Hey everyone, first new event for the new year! Hope to see you there!😄

Hi everyone, Happy new year! Jai here, the new head TO for Launceston Smash. As Dean (longest tenured TO in Aus btw) is stepping away in the new year, I wanted to share some updates that will be happening to our locals and competitions on a state-wide scale. If you’re not a Tassie player, feel free to give this one a miss, but if you are a local who’s been to our events before, strap in cause I think you’ll want to give this one a read.

First up, we’re changing the name of our locals to Launceston Smash Club. The aim with this name change is to soften our overall image and present ourselves as a community first, and competition second. This is the guiding principle Dean has followed during his time as a leader and in my opinion is the reason we hold so strong going into the sixth year of this game’s release. Now, as an attendee, this shouldn’t be terribly important for you. I’ve already been filling the head TO role for a little while now, so hopefully you don’t notice too much different going on.

The other thing I wanted to talk about is our new crews format we will be trying across all of Tasmanian Smash in 2025. All active players in Tasmania have been drafted onto four teams, whose names I am proud to share here for the first time! These names were voted on by members of the Tasmanian Smash community.

The Wellington Wizards🧙, captained by Sayhnim
The Hobart Hogs🐗, captained by Willye
The Mowbray Mashers👊, captained by Jai2go
The Campbell Town Cavaliers⚔️, captained by Ripto

Throughout the year, players can earn points for their team which will be tallied into their team’s overall total. Our goals with this format are to forge new bonds, especially cross-state within the community and to create easy pathways for players to improve, and have people to improve for. By attending an appropriate amount of tournaments and showing enough interest, new players can be added to the existing teams.

We hope you enjoy what we have planned for you in 2025!
My biggest request is that if you are excited at all about what we’ve got going on this year, try to see if you’ve got any friends who may be interested in attending, even if you’ve tried them before. Across the state we’re trying more than ever to bring in new people and share the wonderful community we’ve built and we’d love them to become a part of it.
