Can you help end period poverty?

Share The Dignity is calling for urgent help for their August Dignity Drive! The volunteers at Share The Dignity work tirelessly to bring dignity to those who menstruate by ensuring period products are free and accessible to those who need them. ❤

Charity partners of Share The Dignity have estimated that over 83,000 tampons are required to fill the needs of those who have periods and are experiencing homelessness, domestic violence or other issues causing ‘period poverty’. When making the call for assistance, on Saturday 24h August, with one week to go, the drive has only received just over 15,000 tampons.

You can donate online to help fill the gap, even $5 can make a huge difference to those in need 🙏
The link to donate online is Dignity Drive: Donate (sharethedignity.org.au)

To find your closest collection point to make an in-person donation of unopened packages of period products (tampons are of most need but all products are required and will be utilised for those in need) you can use this link - Dignity Drive (sharethedignity.org.au)

Meet Micaela Cronin, Australia's First Domestic Violence Commissioner.
“I am deeply committed to addressing and ending violence against women and children in all its forms, and am looking forward to the contribution I will make as Commissioner. The new National Plan is an ambitious blueprint, but it is a truly national document with collaboration from all jurisdictions and stakeholders. I will take my responsibility to measure the success of the National Plan delivery seriously.”

From a Thrive in the Light perspective, we welcome the insights and experience she brings to the table and we are looking forward to some great outcomes moving onward in this space with the National Plan.

Hi All,
A consultation paper has been requested of our charity on the Domestic Violence sector on the “professionals” working within this industry. This includes DV and family violence counsellors, DV “specialists”, family violence counsellors, trainers and DV advocates.

This industry is not regulated which then allows people to use sensitive information gathered during the processes of helping people through experiencing family or domestic violence, against the victim or for their personal financial gain. We have been given incidents of this reported to us, where a “DV specialist” has sided with the perpetrator out of a personal falling out with the victim. This has unfortunately led to more violence and stalking.

Psychologists and similar professionals have regulations and are bound by confidentiality. These DV “specialists” may act like they are, but nothing stopping them from using personal and sensitive information gathered in their “help” of the victim for abusive purposes.

We are now inviting the community and professionals to assist us in this process of talking about advocating for change including professional regulation of individuals working in this industry. This will help stop family violence being perpetrated by the DV specialists working in the industry. We are also advocating for psych clearances for professionals working in this space.

We are turning off comments for privacy reasons but welcome confidential internal Facebook messages or email to [email protected], if you have any examples or experiences with this.
