"๐Ÿ“ขShoutout to the students at Leighland Christian School - Ulverstone & Burnie for hand making Worry Monsters!

These special keepsakes are given to children at the end of our Understanding Worry program and help children continue using the tools and strategies theyโ€™ve learnt throughout the 7-week program.

The students at Leighlandโ€™s have made sure that every Worry Monster is uniquely made, just like every child. Some children prefer scary monsters, others love gentle, sparkly, or silly ones - thereโ€™s a perfect monster for every child. There are even Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce monsters in this bunch! โœจ

Thank you Leighland Christian School students for the thought and effort you put into these Worry Monsters, they will be going to good homes soon ๐Ÿ’›

๐ŸŒŸ Meet the Team Monday โ€“ Volunteer Edition ๐ŸŒŸ

This week we're shining a spotlight on one of our amazing volunteers ๐Ÿ’›

Each week, this volunteer helps prepare craft materials and activities, organise resources, and keep all the bits and pieces that support our programs running smoothly behind the scenes. While children may never meet them, their contribution helps make so much of what we do possible ๐ŸŒฑ

What is your favourite thing about volunteering with IO4K?
Being able to help lots of kids and hopefully making a difference in their lives.

Finish this sentence: When Iโ€™m worried, I usuallyโ€ฆ
Watch my favourite people on YouTube and listen to my audiobooks because this helps me re-regulate my nervous system, and then I am able to talk things through.

If you could create a National Day, what would it be?
National Sorting and Organising Day - because I love to bring order to chaos.

Name your favourite picture book:
๐Ÿ“š A Year on Our Farm by Penny Matthews because it shows how different seasons in our lives come and go.

We are incredibly grateful for the time, care and organisation our volunteers bring to IO4K. Their work may happen behind the scenes, but it makes a real difference to the children, families and schools we support ๐Ÿ’›

Bringing Up Great Kids โ€“ Final Session
As we wrap up our Bringing Up Great Kids program, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Town Child and Family Learning Centre for hosting us and for their ongoing support throughout the program.
To our participants, thank you for your openness, vulnerability, and commitment. Your willingness to reflect, learn, and grow for your children, your families, and yourselves has been truly inspiring.
It has been a privilege to share this experience with you all.

๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ’› Supporting wellbeing in our schools ๐Ÿ’›๐ŸŽ

Teachers and school staff play such an important role in the lives of children and young people. Sometimes a simple conversation, a listening ear, or noticing when something doesn't seem quite right can make a real difference.

We're sharing this helpful resource from R U OK? for schools and educators. It offers practical guidance to support meaningful conversations and help create safe, connected learning environments.

Thank you to R U OK? for providing free resources that help schools foster connection, belonging and wellbeing.

Sometimes the quietest student in the room is carrying the heaviest load.

Schools are more than places of learning, they're communities where a single conversation can make all the difference. Teachers, counsellors, support staff and peers all have the power to notice when a student isn't quite themselves. And sometimes, all it takes is pausing to ask: 'are you OK?'

Make checking in part of your school culture, not just one day a year, but every day ๐Ÿ’›

Each week in the Bringing Up Great Kids program, participants are offered a yummy morning tea spread while a story is shared by our facilitator, made possible through the support of Communities for Children. We are so grateful this funding allows us to bring the program to communities like the George Town Child and Family Learning Centre.

What is your favourite thing about your job?
Supporting our amazing team and the fun, connected culture weโ€™ve built together. One minute weโ€™re having important conversations about supporting children and familiesโ€ฆ and the next someone randomly bursts into song and half the office joins in.

Finish this sentence: When Iโ€™m worried, I usuallyโ€ฆ
Talk things through with someone I trust, make a plan, and remind myself to take one step at a time.

If you could create a National Day, what would it be?
National Comfy Clothes & Kindness Day where everyone wears comfy clothes, drinks good coffee, and goes out of their way to make someone smile.

Name your favourite picture book:
๐Ÿ“š Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Because some days just feel like thatโ€ฆ and it reminds us that everyone has tough days sometimes.

Sue brings warmth, wisdom and a whole lot of encouragement to our team, helping create the supportive culture that makes IO4K such a special place to work ๐Ÿ’›

๐ŸŒŠ Session 4 โ€“ Bringing Up Great Kids Program at Georgetown Child and Family Learning Centre
This week we explored The Iceberg - Feelings and Needs, learning that behaviour is just the tip of the iceberg, with deeper feelings and needs like wanting to feel seen, safe and loved underneath. Participants used feelings and needs cards to build understanding and connection, reminding us that all behaviour has meaning.
We also talked about HALT, recognising how behaviour can be influenced when someone is feeling hungry, angry, lonely or tired. Taking a moment to pause and check these basic needs can help us respond with more understanding and care. A calm adult supporting co-regulation plays an important role in helping children feel safe and supported.

This week is National Chaplaincy Week, an annual event hosted by Scripture Union Australia to raise awareness of the value of school chaplains and to help raise funds to support their work.
Like IO4K, they too provide emotional support to students, thereby helping to improve student wellbeing. In fact, so well do the two services go together that our Team Leader, Linda, is also a School Chaplain!

We celebrate the compassion, care, and connection that chaplains bringโ€”making a lasting difference in the lives of students every day.
