A highlight from the Volunteer Ambulance Officers Association of Tasmania & Friends annual gathering at Grindelwald last weekend was welcoming Ambulance Tasmania volunteers aboard the RFDS Tasmania flight simulator.

Volunteers from across Tasmania and the Bass Strait islands had the chance to experience life in the air, with some sharing stories of regularly working alongside RFDS crews in their roles, while others stepped inside an RFDS aircraft environment for the very first time.

It was a pleasure to connect with the dedicated volunteers who help support their communities every day. Thank you for all that you do. 💙

🐶 Many would say they were barking mad!

But the wind that kept many indoors at the weekend didn’t stop our determined group of supporters and their four-legged friends in Launceston from spreading awareness of the vital work of the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Tasmania. The turnout was small, but the message was clear:

No matter the weather, RFDS remains committed to reaching those in need.

And this dedicated group was proud to stand behind that mission as part of Oceans to Outback.

This October Tasmanians are running, walking, and riding to clock up the ks in support of the Flying Doctor, watch out for their blue and orange t-shirts.

There’s nothing quite like hearing firsthand what the Flying Doctor means to the communities we serve. 💙

At today’s St Helens Festival of Wellness, we spoke with locals who shared stories of life-changing RFDS retrievals and told us how reassuring it is to see the plane arrive on Tasmania’s East Coast.

Between those meaningful conversations, our team offered blood pressure checks and grip strength tests and showed visitors through our aeromedical simulator.

Thank you to everyone who came to say hello, shared their experience and reminded us why being there for Tasmanian communities matters so much. ✈️

🦷💪🧠 What healthcare services does our community need for the future?

RFDS Tasmania wants to hear from local residents, healthcare professionals, community groups, businesses and anyone passionate about improving healthcare access across Glamorgan Spring Bay.

Join us for a community conversation about:
✅ Local healthcare needs and priorities
✅ Barriers to accessing care
✅ Gaps in existing services
✅ Ideas for new and expanded healthcare services
✅ Funding opportunities and community partnerships
✅ The future of healthcare delivery across the East Coast

We'll also provide an update on RFDS Tasmania's dental services transition from May Shaw Health Centre in late 2026/early 2027.

Importantly, we will be continuing to provide our dental, mental and physical health services in the area, with our mobile dental clinic where required.

Five years of Oceans to Outback, Seventeen Years of Impact

For almost two decades, Tasmanian and retired health professional, Tricia, has been standing behind the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Tasmania.

Through donations, fundraising and more recently volunteering, her support has helped ensure people living, working and travelling in rural and remote communities can access the healthcare they need, when they need it most.
