Wow, what a day!
Thank you so much to all the wonderful families and individuals who attended our Family Fun Day at the Rocherlea Community Shed yesterday.

What a fantastic turnout it was!

🌸 Here’s a little taste of what to expect at our Spring Family Fun Day next week! 🌸

Rosie's Reading will be bringing along a very special guest, Gabrielle Adkins, for a Celebrity Read-Along! Gabrielle is an actor, voice-over artist and playwright, known for her appearances in Bay of Fires, Rosehaven, All Saints, Water Rats and many other productions over the years.

We’ve also got some wonderful community partners bringing along a range of fun activities for the whole family. There will be worry doll making, DIY fairy wands, an instant photo booth with dress-ups, banner painting, balloon making, face painting and more 🎨🧚

And of course, we’ll have Nick from Snag Chat slinging sausages and keeping those busy tummies full with a FREE sausage sizzle! 🌭

🎉 Children’s Voices Final Session! 🎉

We wrapped up our five-week Children’s Voices program with a celebration of the children’s hard work, ideas and achievements.
We celebrated with food chosen by the children, including one very important request for dragon fruit!

A big part of the Children's Voices Program is about giving children a platform to have their voices heard. We took the dragon fruit request very seriously, visiting three different stores before finally finding some at Young’s Veggie Shed.

The child who requested it was thrilled! It was even more lovely seeing her excitement as the other students tried dragon fruit for the very first time.

We also worked on flyers for the upcoming Neon Rock n Roll School Disco, using the children’s own writing and illustrations 🎸✨

A big thank you to all the children for sharing their voices, creativity and ideas over the past five weeks! We can’t wait to celebrate with them further at the upcoming Leadership Summit excursion and School Disco in November. And a big thank you to Lilydale District School for welcoming us into the school and supporting the Children's Voices program 👏

Last week we had our fourth Children’s Voices session with Year 3 & 4 students at Lilydale District School.

Children’s Voices is about giving children a say in decisions that affect them, listening to their ideas and supporting them to turn those ideas into action.

We welcomed Year 2 students for their first session, caught them up on the program and jumped straight into planning for the students’ “Wish”.
After last week’s “Wish Storming” session, where students collaborated to devise a wish for their school, we ultimately landed on…

🪩 A WHOLE SCHOOL DISCO! 🪩
The students then planned their disco using “Dot Democracy”, voting on different themes and activity options with stickers.
The end result was…

🤘 NEON ROCK ’N’ ROLL DISCO! 🤘
Some other decisions we landed on were limbo, Gangnam Style, glow sticks and age-appropriate music recommendations. We were very impressed by some of the nostalgic music requests!
We’re so excited to help turn their wish into reality by facilitating a whole-school disco and giving the students a platform to have their voices heard.

✨ We had so much fun at Session 3 of Children's Voices at Lilydale District School last week ✨

In this session the students began devising the wishes they would like to see for their school community 🪄 The students worked in groups to 'wish storm' as many wishes as they could, before 'shooting' their top wishes through a portable basketball hoop 🏀 ⛹️‍♀️We look forward to working with the students to enact the most suitable wishes in the weeks to come!

✨ Session 2 of Children's Voices at Lilydale District School concluded last week! ✨

During this session the students put their creativity and artistic flair to the test by working in groups to create collages of assets of their community. The students used art and craft materials and magazine cut-outs to symbolise what helps them have fun and feel safe and connected about where they live ✂️🎨🖼️

Stay tuned for Session 3 when the students work towards what wishes they would like to see for their school community! 🪄

Emily Cfc enjoyed attending this training workshop yesterday, facilitated by Dr Rosie Nash.

Some very important discussion around what health literacy is and a practical framework to use to improve it for all children, families and community members accessing services.
