Come and see how to make a wicking bed, buy some items from the Men's Shed. Tea and cake also available.
Entry via 120 Flinders Avenue, please use Lara Primary School carpark. If you have mobility issues park in Scuti Court and enter there.
There is also a special segment to honour the memory of the past president of the Garden group.
Lara Community Gardens is celebrating the life of Derek Bogemann, President of the Gardens at the time of his sudden passing. His family and community was left reeling from the sudden and unexpected loss.
Derek threw himself into ensuring the future of LCGAP. He planted 23 fruit trees, espaliered, half of which were donated by a generous Lara resident. Those trees needed to be dug out and planted out in their current home. The grounds at LCGAP are rock hard, therefore the effort to transplant was intense.
Without Derek’s dedication and love for the gardens, the current project funded by Bendigo Bank would not be possible. We are celebrating Derek’s life and legacy at LCGAP, Scuti Court at this Open Day on 16th November and we hope you can shine a light on the extraordinary efforts of the members who have also dedicated many hours, blood, sweat and tears on this project.
Consultation with horticulturalist, Craig Castree has meant the direction of the gardens is a bright one. The espalier will be stunning and shows that all home gardeners can learn the skills to take back to their own backyards. Or, come and join the Lara Community Gardens as we are currently looking for passionate volunteers and members who wish to enrich their lives through gardening.
