🔍 DO YOU KNOW THIS MAN?

We're on a mission to find out more about Louis Edgar Cazaly — a WWI veteran from Montrose whose remarkable story has been hidden in the shadows of history for over a century.

Louis served with the 59th Battalion on the Western Front, and a selfless act he performed in the trenches helped inspire what is today known as Veteran Housing Australia. He's remembered on the Montrose War Memorial and the Shire of Lillydale WWI Honour Board — but we still have so much to learn about him.

We're searching for:
📸 A photograph of Louis Edgar Cazaly
👨‍👩‍👧 Any descendants or relatives who may hold the key to his story

This week we launched our brand new website, shared our founder's story, shone a spotlight on veteran artwork, and paused to reflect on the powerful words of Lou.

To everyone who visited the site, shared our posts, and took a moment to send us a kind message — thank you. It means the world to this small but passionate team. Seeing people connect with these stories, and with the heart behind what we do, is exactly why we started.

"Young Snowy is on duty, but he was fast asleep and I didn't have the heart to wake him."
— Louis Edgar Cazaly

Few words say so much. In the trenches, far from home, Lou Cazaly's quiet compassion for a sleeping young soldier speaks to the character of the man behind the uniform.
Lou's story didn't end on the battlefield. His resilience and spirit were a direct inspiration for William Hawkins, who founded the Carry On Club in 1932 — a lifeline for veterans navigating life after service.
