Photos of extreme coastal erosion at a much-loved coastal holiday town have emerged online as a plan for the area’s future hangs in limbo amid local controversy.

Due to poor planning in the past by our planners the Shire of Gingin was lumped with spending millions saving the houses on the beachfront of Seanird 10 years ago .

It saved the houses but the downside is that the hard wall undercuts the beach and this is why there is the saying “seawalls mean death to the beach “.

Seawalls ultimately fail and create long term liabilities in terms of maintenance , it restricts access to the beach both for swimming and certainly there is no access for 4WD’s and ultimately can shift the problem elsewhere!

We are not critical of Seabird as it had to be done to save the houses but it’s an example of why you don’t build in dynamic dune systems .

This is not the answer for Lancelin as we still have the chance to rebuild our frontal dunes and to not build permanent infrastructure in the frontal and even better secondary dunes .

Another weekend of frontal dune driving destruction with this weekends idiot trying to drive up the walking path to the Casserley Way carpark from the closed section of the Beach .

Driving on the beach doesn’t cause erosion it’s the idiots that drive up into the frontal dune system.

Maybe we need a $500 fine as fixing the erosion is a huge cost to ratepayers .

Now we ( not us) have started the North end version of the Grace Darling Park erosion !

Why is it so hard for some people to grasp that interfering with the frontal dune system is not a good idea ?

Isn’t it funny how the King Bogan of Lancelin is not calling for 4wD access on the North end ?

We guess the King Bogan does not like cars driving in front of the beach mansions ?

This is why eventually all the beaches will be closed to 4WD ‘s because of the stupidity and sense of entitlement of a small group of idiots.

Today on the closed section of the back beach multiple car tracks along with idiots driving up into the frontal dune system . It’s just another nail in the coffin for beach access if these people don’t have some respect .

The ranger managed to nab one idiot that drove right along the front of Grace Darling Park , weaving amongst people laying on the beach on their way South .

We need to stop these idiots before we lose our beach access altogether!
