We are so incredible proud of our life member Cameron King who has been awarded the prestigious National Medal, recognising his long-standing dedication and service to the lifesaving community.

The National Medal is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated long and diligent service in roles that involve risk to personal safety, particularly in protecting or assisting the community during emergencies or natural disasters. Volunteer lifesavers must complete a minimum of 30 patrol hours each year over a 15-year period to be eligible for the award, and we know Cam is just getting warmed up!

••• GIPPSLAND DEVELOPMENT COURSE 2026 •••

Surf Life Saving Lakes Entrance hosted Gippsland’s first Gippsland Development Course. 14 candidates from across the region attended the two day course to advance their rescue capabilities.

Candidates explored a range of complex Search & Rescue (SAR) operations including:
🛟 Aquatic + inland SAR patterns
🛟 Jetty entries
🛟 Body retrieval
🛟 Multiagency response

The highlight? Yesterday’s multiagency operation - Gippsland Apex. Yesterdays planned training exercise included:
🚑 Ambulance Victoria
🚒 CFA
🛟 Coast Guard
🌊 Life Saving Victoria
🚓 Victoria Police (including Water Police)

The marine incident involved a capsized vessel and four missing teenagers - designed to test their ability to communicate and coordinate, as well as make decisions under pressure.

Multiagency exercises like these strengthen our response; ensuring all agencies are prepared to respond effectively and safely as one cohesive team 🤝🏼

Thank you to all agencies involved. It was an incredibly beneficial exercise, and way to round out our course 🌟

Thank you to course facilitator - Liam Marangio (Cape Paterson SLSC) and trainee facilitators Daniel Petterson (Woodside Beach SLS) & Calden Lyons (Apollo Bay SLSC), as well as our patient patients 😉

We’re excited to plan, and bring to life Gippsland’s 2027 Development Course. Stay tuned 👀

Yesterday, SLS Lakes Entrance celebrated Life Saving Victoria’s annual Pink Patrol—our biggest yet—with 60 people coming together to recognise the impact of girls and women in shaping the lifesaving movement and creating more visible opportunities and pathways. This season, we also extended the celebration to our local emergency services 🤝🏼

This year’s International Women’s Day theme, Give to Gain, was explored by our incredible panel. It encourages generosity, collaboration, and action—values that sit at the heart of volunteerism.

Cherie Dear, Founder and CEO of Dare to Hope, shared how she has turned grief into action, leading a national, volunteer-led charity supporting pancreatic cancer research and awareness. daretohopeau

Erin Reed, Patrol Captain at Hampton LSC and Lifeguard Supervisor for the Central region, spoke about her leadership journey across roles including Director of Junior Activities and her work driving Life Saving Victoria’s Youth Programs. hampton.lsc

Holly Foster , Club Captain at Inverloch SLSC, highlighted her involvement across operations, training, and leadership, alongside her roles as an Area Response Officer and Beach Lifeguard. inverlochslsc

The panel also reflected on the future of volunteerism and shared their goals for 2026 as we wrapped up the morning.

Other highlights included:
• Tri Açai bowls
• Lunch from The Travelling Squid
• Pink Patrol itself—a Lakes + Mallacoota collab 💛❤️

A big thank you to 13th Beach SLSC’s Madi Adams for running an IRB Racing session—it was a fantastic afternoon 🦆

To our guests and supporting small businesses, including The Yellow Door—thank you. This event was proudly supported by the LSV Gippsland Sporting Hub Project, funded by the Victorian Government’s Strengthening Regional Community Sports Program.

It was a morning of connection that turned into opportunity on patrol.

Give generously. Collaborate openly. Take action. Say yes to what excites and challenges you 🔥

••• BLUE PATROL •••

Life Saving Victoria today, and while we’re late to the party - it was just as impactful.

A day of connection, and belonging to a very special community 💛❤️ We kicked off with a welcome + question box; focusing of all things mental health and wellbeing. The team did some breath work before hitting the surf for a cold plunge, and setting up Patrol. Patrol was EPIC! Inflatables + IRBs/ RWCs galore, and a huge feed for lunch.

A very special thanks to our Ops team - particularly event organiser, Charlie Graham (Junior Captain Club). The days success was credit to Charlie, and the teams efforts 🌟

As we move into a new week:

💙 Connect with your inner circle, and check in.

💙 Fill your cup up! You can’t pour from an empty cup.

💙 What’s your self care strategies this week? Exercise/ laughter + music go along way to boosting your energy levels and mood.

Well done to the team for being present today, and leaning in. Couldn’t be prouder 🥹

💙

Lakes Entrance’s Club Captain Eden McMillan, and Chief Instructor Jess Woodward were fortunate enough to spend the weekend with . They facilitated a Scene Management workshop which included plenty of scenario based training (cue cameo of local legend - Naomi Sjerp 🌟) as well as a large offsite call out to Marengo Beach as patrol concluded.

The team leaned in, and showed up confidently and competently … AND the questions! Incredible. We deep dived into some ripper topics. Well done crew 👏🏼💙

A huge thank you to abslsc Club Captain, Calden Lyons and the team for hosting us. It’s a partnership we look forward to fostering 🤝🏼

Happy Pride Patrol weekend
