🚒🏖️ Vols on Hols is Returning to Toorloo Fire Brigade! 🏖️🚒

If you're planning a getaway to the stunning Lake Tyers Beach area, why not add a unique volunteering experience to your holiday?
Toorloo Fire Brigade is excited to welcome visiting CFA volunteers through the Vols on Hols program once again this year. Nestled among the coastal bushland and waterways of East Gippsland, our brigade offers volunteers the opportunity to connect with local members, experience firefighting in a beautiful part of Victoria, and, where appropriate, turn out alongside our crew.
Whether you're staying for a few days or enjoying an extended break, Vols on Hols is a fantastic way to meet new people, share knowledge and skills, and stay connected to the CFA family while away from home.
From the pristine beaches of Lake Tyers Beach to the tranquil lakes and forests that surround us, there's plenty to explore while enjoying the rewarding experience of volunteering with a local brigade.

I’m so proud to share the CFA journey of my very good friend and fellow Captain, Tracey Johnston. ❤️🚒

Tracey and I have shared many, many kilometres travelling across Victoria as part of the CFA Women in Leadership Mentoring Program. Along the way, we’ve shared our experiences, exchanged ideas, tackled challenges and, on more than one occasion, attempted to solve all the problems of the CFA world! 😂

But perhaps the most valuable part of those long road trips has been the laughter, friendship, encouragement and unwavering support we’ve given each other.

We remind each other of our strengths, build each other’s confidence and encourage one another to keep growing, challenging ourselves and stepping outside our comfort zones.

It’s a wonderful reminder of just how powerful it is when women support, encourage and lift each other up. Something we could all do a little more of.

Tracey, I’m incredibly proud of you, your leadership and everything you bring to CFA. I’m also very grateful for the friendship we’ve built along the way.

Here’s to many more kilometres, laughs and conversations about how we’re going to fix the world! ❤️🚒

Summer is approaching, so now is the time to prepare your home, property and family for the upcoming fire season.

Join your local CFA volunteers at the Toorloo Fire Station for our Fire Ready Day:

📅 Saturday, 24 October 2026
⏰ 8:00 am – 2:00 pm

Come along, meet your local volunteers and have a conversation about the fire risks in our area. We’ll help you take practical steps to become better prepared, including:

✅ Preparing your home and property for summer
✅ Starting or updating your bushfire survival plan
✅ Understanding when to leave
✅ Downloading the VicEmergency app and setting up a watch zone
✅ Getting practical fire-safety advice
✅ Visiting the CFA Mobile Education Unit
✅ Accessing fire-safety resources and giveaways
✅ Children’s activities, including Captain Koala
✅ CFA balloons, subject to availability

🌭 Free food and refreshments will be available, including bacon and egg rolls, sausages, tea, coffee and sweets for the kids!

Bring the whole family and enjoy a free community day while taking simple actions that could help protect the people and places you love.

🔥 $5,780 RAISED — THANK YOU! 🔥

What an incredible experience the 13th Annual Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb was.

For us, this event was never about winning, who was fastest, or where we finished.

It was about community, people and purpose. ❤️

Every one of those 28 floors represented something much bigger than the climb itself. We climbed to support the incredible organisations that are there for people and families during some of the hardest moments of their lives Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation, Lifeline and the 000Foundation.

And thanks to the absolutely amazing support of our family, friends, brigade members, colleagues and wider community, we raised an incredible $5,780!

That is HUGE, and we cannot thank you enough.

Every donation, every message, every share, every word of encouragement and every person who got behind us helped us up those stairs.

Without people like you supporting events like this, our beneficiaries simply couldn’t continue the incredible work, research, crisis support and care they provide every day.

Across the entire event, more than $1.1 million was raised for cancer research and crisis support. To know that our little team and our community contributed $5,780 towards that total makes us incredibly proud.

To everyone who donated whether it was $5, $50, $500 or simply whatever you could afford thank you. Every single contribution mattered.

To everyone who encouraged us in the lead-up, checked in on us, wished us luck, followed along on the day and celebrated with us afterwards thank you.

And to the volunteers, climb crew, medical teams, organisers and fellow emergency services personnel who made the day what it was thank you for being part of something so special.

The stairs were tough.
The gear was heavy.
The legs definitely knew about it afterwards! 😂🔥

But knowing who we were climbing for, and knowing how many people were standing behind us, made every single step worthwhile.

$5,780 raised. 28 floors climbed. One incredible community behind us.

Happy Father’s Day to all our wonderful dads, mentors and father figures! ❤️

We are incredibly fortunate to have so many amazing dads within our community, and today we want to give each of you a very special shout-out. We hope you have a spectacular day!

To all the dads in the Toorloo Fire Brigade: thank you for everything you do. You are our everyday superheroes and a true inspiration.

You answer the call without hesitation—leaving the dinner table, heading out after a long day at work, responding at 3 am on a freezing winter morning, or facing the heat of a 40-degree summer day with a hot northerly blowing in your face.

You do it because you care. You do it because you want to help others. You do it because you are remarkable people who put the community before yourselves.

Today, we celebrate you—not only as firefighters, but as dads, mentors, role models and valued members of our Toorloo family.

Thank you for your courage, kindness, sacrifice and unwavering commitment to our community.
