Lions Club of Lake Grace

The Lions Club of Lake Grace once again put on an
Australia Day Breakfast, between 7.30 & 8.30 am and
a little beyond. 🇦🇺🥓🍳

Thence followed the official proceedings with Lions
Club president Chris Harvey delivering his welcoming
address. Chris then handed over to Deputy Shire President,
Councillor Steve Hunt to conduct the citizenship
awards presentation.

Lion Chris then accompanied award recipients with the
raising of the Australian flag to the strains of the
national anthem. The official photographing with the
award winning group took place soon after.

President Chris wrapped up the morning’s event by
thanking everyone for their attendance and for the
support of the Lake Grace Shire Council.

Some stats: The number 106 was mentioned of the
crowd size entering the pool. Voluntary donations
amounted to $249.45c- Thankyou for your generosity
everyone!

Thanks must go to the pool manager Mark (Jones)
Gillbard and Fiona Chatfield for their co-operation with
Lions and 1st class presentation of the pool and
surrounds.

We've all heard about Cash 4 Cans (C4C), yet many are still making their way into everyday rubbish bins or lying about in the back of our cars.
Every recyclable drink container earns 10c - which if you are a fundraising organisation - that supports the community, that all adds up. 🤗👍

The Lions Club of Lake Grace have these recycle bins all around town - the main street, fuel station, motel and even at the freight depot collection point and so on! Don't throw them in the trash bin - pop them into these recycle bins and help Lions Club of Lake Grace continue to support our community.
Special thanks to Chris Harvey and fellow Lions who regularly check on these bins.

LIONS CHANGEOVER

The Lake Grace Lions Club changeover of office bearers luncheon was held on the 7th of July 2019 at the Walkers Hill Vineyard Lake Grace.
Many thanks to outgoing President for 2018-2019 Shashi Holla and also to Arthur Slarke for his Secretarial work over the previous 12
months.
The New President for 2019-2020 is Nic Maalouf and the Secretary over this same period will be myself, Robert Trescuri.

The Lions of Lake Grace would like to thank the visiting Lions clubs; Kulin, Kondinin, Wagin, Hyden and Narembeen that came to support Lake Grace Lions for their changeover luncheon.

Lake Grace Lions Club would also like to thank Zone Chairperson, Jamie Mawer who welcomed and inducted the new incoming Lake Grace Lions committee members.

The Lions Club of Lake Grace has purchased a BBQ trailer from the Lions Club of Bullcreek. We would like to thank Lion Allan Duckworth for going to Bullcreek and towing the trailer BBQ back to Lake Grace.

We would also like to thank Jamie Mawer for welcoming and inducting our newest member to Lake Grace Lions, Carol Kavanagh.

Remembering Phil Clarke

A respectful crowd gathered for the unveiling of a plaque in honour of Philip Clarke, situated on the remembrance wall at Lions Park on Saturday morning 1st November 2025.

Lion's Club President Chris Harvey began the proceedings by calling for everyone's attention to welcome the Clarke family in particular, along with a number of friends and members of the Lions and Men's Shed.

Chris went on to describe in effusive terms the qualities of Phil Clarke and what he meant to the Lions Club and community.

Following the opening address Lion Chris invited Phil's immediate family to come forward to carry out the unveiling of the plaque.
Phil's widow Margaret, flanked by their daughters Stephanie and Misha undertook the unveiling with the removal of the Lions banner and bannerette.

In a few emotional words, Stephanie spoke on behalf of the Clarke family to sincerely thank the Lions Club for organizing this event and what it meant to them to have Phil remembered in this way.

A number of speakers voluntarily came forward describe their memories or shared experiences of Phil, all of which spoke in high praise and manner of respect; the overwhelming characteristic of Phil was his kindness.

A belated morning tea was taken on site. An impressive array of dishes filled the table including one of Phil favourite sweets of Ice cream and fruit salad supplied by Margaret herself.

Hot water was ferried from Chris's residence by means of an E wheelbarrow, thanks to the generous loan for the day by the daughter of long-standing Lions Club member John deVree, Janine Watson.

The Lions Club of Lake Grace played host to Zone Chairman, Lion Clifton Cook recently.

Lion’s President Chris Harvey welcomed everyone present and made special mention of Lion Cliff who’d travelled from Hyden to be with us as part of his commitment to visit clubs in the zone during the year of service.

Following club business, the President called upon Zone Chairman Cliff to carry out a new member induction ceremony. Lion Cliff called upon Lions President Lion Chris and sponsor Lion Arther to stand witness to the induction of Carey Higgins. Carey responded to the several conditions applying to someone joining Lions, answering in the affirmative. At this point Zone chairman Cliff declared Carey to now be a Lions Lake Grace Member. Then followed a period of badge and certificate presentation. Carey is no stranger to the formality of the occasion, as she had once been a member of a Tasmanian Lions Club.

Afterwards, members and present company gave Lion Carey a warm welcome into the Lions Club of Lake Grace and made her partner Aaron and children Evangeline and Gabriel welcome to join in on future Lions activities and events.

At the conclusion of formalities, Lion Club Vice President Darren Spencer stood up and thanked Lion Cliff for visiting our club and performing the important role of inducting our new member.
