The Queensland Police Service (QPS) is deeply saddened by the passing of former Commissioner of Police Steve Gollschewski AO APM, following a courageous battle with cancer, today.

Steve’s legacy of service, courage, integrity and dedication will be remembered with great respect and gratitude by the many people and communities influenced by him.

His leadership through some of the most complex and significant moments in recent years reflected the confidence placed in him across the Service, government and the broader community. He was admired by many for his judgement, foresight and deep understanding of policing, and his impact will continue to be felt across Queensland, nationally and internationally for many years to come.

The QPS extends its sincerest condolences to Steve’s family, friends, colleagues and all who knew him during this difficult time.

With a career spanning more than 46 years, former Commissioner Gollschewski was the third longest serving police officer in QPS’ history.

Former Commissioner Gollschewski was appointed Queensland’s 21st Police Commissioner on 22 April 2024 and retired on 20 February 2026.

With honour he served.

Free Online Safety Sessions Coming to Gold Coast Libraries



Scams continue to evolve, targeting people of all ages and backgrounds. To help Gold Coast residents stay informed and protected, City of Gold Coast Libraries is partnering with IDCARE to deliver a series of free Staying Safe Online community sessions this September.



IDCARE is Australia and New Zealand's national identity and cyber support service, providing expert support to people impacted by scams, cybercrime, and identity misuse.



During these in-person sessions, attendees will learn how modern scams work, understand the tactics scammers use to target individuals, and discover practical habits that can help keep them safe online.

Impersontion Scams.

Sometimes the person contacting you looks and sounds exactly like someone you know—or claims to represent someone you trust.

🚩 Be cautious if they:

- Suddenly ask you to transfer money or buy gift cards
- Say they've lost their phone or can't talk normally
- Ask you to keep the request secret or act immediately

Verify unusual requests using a different contact method. A quick phone call could stop a scam in its tracks.

Police have charged two people after a stolen vehicle was tracked across the Gold Coast District last night.

It will be alleged, about 6.40am police tracked a stolen grey Audi Q5 driving dangerously throughout the Gold Coast.
