World Su***de Prevention Day is this Thursday, 10 September.

Nationally, 9 people die by su***de each day. Men make up more than three-quarters of those deaths. Men in regional and remote Australia are lost to su***de at more than double the rate of men in major cities.

The Healthy North Coast Kyogle LGA factsheet shows that our region has a su***de rate of 20 per 100,000, almost double the NSW rate of 11 per 100,000. Around 1 in 5 people locally report high or very high psychological distress.https://hnc.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Kyogle.pdf

If you or someone you know needs a more direct line for support, please reach out:

Blue Tree Project: Blue Tree Project is a mental health charity that began in 2019 after the tragic loss of Jayden Whyte, a much-loved son, brother and friend to su***de in 2018.

These striking symbols of hope have resonated deeply, sparking open and meaningful conversations, positively transforming attitudes towards mental health. Pictured with this post is Kyogle’s Blue Tree, located on Anzac Drive near the Bowling Club. www.bluetreeproject.com.au

Dawn walk: Lifeline's Out of the Shadows walk happens on or around World Su***de Prevention Day each year - a 9km walk at first light to remember the 9 people lost nationally each day to su***de and to raise funds for crisis support. www.outoftheshadowswalk.org.au

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Silent Disco on the 10th of July. The night was filled with dancing, laughter and plenty of fun.

The KMI hall looked incredible and created the perfect atmosphere for an unforgettable evening - shout out to Kitty-kitty meow-meow who created the amazing decorations. And thanks to Nick for the lighting.

It was fantastic to see young people relaxing, connecting with friends, trying something new and enjoying themselves.

A special thank you to the young people from Bonalbo and Tineka, who made the trip to Kyogle to be part of the night. We really appreciate the effort you made to come along.

While the disco was a great success, we'd love to see even more young people enjoying teen music events in our community. The more people who come, the bigger the atmosphere. So next time, bring a friend and come along - we'd love to see you there.

Thanks again to everyone who attended and to all the parents and carers who helped taxi young people around.

Holiday Program Success!

What an incredible day at Kyogle Together's holiday program.

Our young people, aged 12 to 18, took part in a First Aid and CPR course, and we couldn't be prouder of what they achieved.

Before the practical training, every participant completed the required pre-course learning - a feat in itself. Throughout the day they showed outstanding teamwork, encouraging and supporting one another while working through each activity.

They learned valuable life-saving skills, including:

☆CPR for adults, children and babies
☆How to use a Defibrillator
☆Treating wounds, fractures, sprains and straines
☆Responding to bites and stings
☆Managing a range of first aid emergencies

Every single participant passed the course and is now a qualified First Aider!

These young people demonstrated maturity, compassion, joy and willingness to learn skills that could one day save someone's life. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them.

A huge thank you to our trainer from St John Ambulance, for delivering an engaging and practical course, and congratulations to all of our amazing participants!

Volunteers urgently needed: Nourishing Kyogle 🥕

Kyogle Together is looking for volunteers to help with food rescue and deliveries around Kyogle. In the last 18 months our Nourishing Kyogle program has received donations and delivered the equivalent of over 30,000 meals to people in need in our region.

What you'll do:
Pick up rescued food from businesses is Kyogle and Casino, and deliver to our partner organisations in Kyogle, driving our refrigerated ute on a 2–3 hour shift.

When:
Monday, Thursday, or Friday mornings - we're short-staffed across all three, so any shift you can commit to helps.

About you:
A current, clean NSW driver's licence. (You do not need your own vehicle, you will use our refrigerated ute).
A commitment to turn up each week.
Physically fit enough to lift boxes up to 20kg in weight.
A polite and friendly attitude.
Volunteers must hold or get a WWCC and Police Check (paid for by us).

What you get:
Real community connection - join a Kyogle Together family of volunteers.
Practical skills and experience.
Free membership to the Kyogle Together Community Gym.
The satisfaction of directly helping your own community.
Also great if you're looking to meet Centrelink mutual obligation requirements.

Today we would like to send enormous piles of love and thanks to Beals BgF for their ongoing support of our Nourishing Kyogle program. Beals are by far our biggest donor in Kyogle. Their delicious goodies have fed our children at our Youth Drop In (Wed-Fri 3.30-5.30) every week, and/or made their way into the homes of people in our community struggling with food insecurity.

Food insecurity disproportionately affects people in our LGA, and the kindness of businesses like Beals make a very real difference. If you are a food business (cafe, supermarket, grocer, restaurant) and would like to know how you can support our community, please reach out to us. Email [email protected] or text John on 0459 520 715.

Youth Drop-in closed this evening. Enjoy your sunny afternoons and we will see you next week!
