🐸 Have you met this new frog species? Meet the Scarlet-sided banjo frog (Limnodynastes grayi), a Pobblebonk frog species officially scientifically recognised in 2024 thanks in part to FrogID citizen science recordings! Last year’s submitted 'bonk’ and ‘tok’ mating calls (similar to the pluck of a banjo string calls) helped Australian Museum researchers distinguish this unique, red-hued banjo frog as its own species.

🔊Record your local ‘bonks’ https://www.frogid.net.au/get-involved

🐸 FrogID is a national citizen science initiative by the Australian Museum, focused on identifying frogs by their unique calls.

🐸 FrogID runs year-round, and this result reminds us that every recorded 'bonk' contributes to vital scientific discovery. While you're out in nature, remember to keep recording frog calls whenever you hear them, both near and far from home.

Last week's final webinar for the year had everyone engaged and fascinated with the reflections shared by Dr Glen Ingram. Glen recalled his observations and work with the presumed extinct platypus frog and southern day frog!

The recorded webinar is now available and we have decided to make this available to anybody who wishes to view it.
