Korweinguboora Emergency Group Inc

Korweinguboora Emergency Group Inc Creating opportunities for the communities of Korweinguboora and surrounds to become more resilient and proud.

We are a small incorporated community group that was established to help build community resilience following the 2021 storm events that impacted our community. Supported by funds received by Emergency Recovery Victoria via Moorabool Shire Council, we developed a Community Emergency Management Action Plan for Korweinguboora and Surrounds. The Plan is based on feedback received from the local commu

nity and highlights the importance of sharing information and creating connections to help the community become more resilient and better planned and prepared for future emergencies. We are committed to implementing the Plan through the development and delivery of some exciting initiatives and activities such as as our 'What if?' emergency resource flipchart and the Community Emergency Preparedness Expo. We look forward to bringing our community together more and seeing them become better connected and resilient..

⚠️⚠️It's going to be a hot one today with extreme fire conditions 🥵 so please look after each other, enact your emergency plan and check in on your neighbours.. stay cool and safe Korweinguboora! 💛

Dry lightning is a risk with any thunderstorms today, Monday 27 January, adding to the fire risk across the state.

❔ Dry lightning refers to thunderstorms that generate lightning but little to no rain. This can be dangerous on days like this as bushes and trees can smoulder, eventually catching fire, and the gusty winds connected with the storm can spread the flames - all without the relieving rain that a thunderstorm might otherwise bring.

With today's widespread Extreme Fire Danger Ratings, it's especially important to remain aware of your surroundings. If lightning has passed through your area, check your property when safe. Look out for:

🧯 New fire starts or smouldering spots
🧯 Smoking trees, grass, or bushes
🧯 Any signs of sparks or hot spots near buildings or vehicles

If you find a fire, call Triple Zero (000) immediately. Getting help quickly can mean the difference between a small fire and a large bushfire.

We are back online after a short hiatus (!!) 🤩🥳and are ready to once again support the Korweinguboora community to become more resilient and better prepared for future emergencies.

🥵As we see the new year kick off with a couple of extreme heat days, we encourage you all to stay up to date with local emergency warnings and have your emergency plan ready to be activated.

Stay safe and cool Korweinguboora!! 💧❄️

Temperatures are going to heat up in parts of Victoria from Friday, so it’s time to prepare now.

Those most at-risk during heatwaves include people over the age of 65, babies and young children, pregnant women, people with acute or chronic health problems and people who are socially isolated. If this is you, make sure you are ready for Friday and the weekend.

Take these steps to stay cool at home during hot weather:
-Use air conditioning or a fan.
-Wear light and loose-fitting clothing.
-Keep skin wet, using a spray bottle or damp sponge or towel
-Block heat from entering your home with blinds or curtains.
