What!? I'm not sure I believe my eyes? have the highway signs for Tower Hill finally had the GAME removed!? Well...it looks like one has been there long enough to be damaged, already.

After many years of our community signing petitions and lobbying and the message has finally made it's way through the seemingly intractable maze of jurisdictions

Thank you too all that supported this important change either through signing our petition, collecting signatures for us or by actually designing and changing the new signs. And with duck hunting at Koroitj postponed for the foreseable future, lets hope that Koroitj becomes a Wildlife Reserve sans GAME HUNTING sometime soon.

Three reasons we should change the Tower Hill sign:

1. 500 signatures collected
2. $11 million dollar redevelopment of Tower Hill
3. Duck hunting mostly likely will be banned in Victoria

Here's 4 more:

1. Tower Hill's highway signs are outdated
2. Don't reflect the reason 280,000 tourists use Tower Hill,
3. Doesn't reflect its indigenous heritage
4. ...and is not way we should teach our kids to think about a lone nature reserve in a patchwork of agriculture.

Our e-petition petition has just closed and been tabled by Georgie Purcell - Animal Justice Party MP in Parliament. We'll now table our signatures with Moyne Shire Council and request that they advocate for our community over this issue.

Whether Victoria follows the other States and bans duck hunting is a matter for the State Government and the 1000s of people and experts who made submissions to the recent parliamentary enquiry into duck hunting.

Whether our premiere eco tourism destination should be marketed as a Game Reserve is a matter for this local community.

The $11 million redevelopment program for Tower Hill is a PERFECT time to update our outdated, faded, and overly-complicated highway signs.

We have collected over 500 signatures now of (mostly) locals who can't understand how our premier wildlife sanctuary is still advertised on our highway as a place to shoot wildlife instead of what Tower Hill is actually used for.

Even something as simple as the suggestions shown below would be better than what's currently on our Tower Hill highway signs! Using an the indigenous name for this culturally significant site would be even better.


Friends of Tower Hill

It was great to get stuck into some tree planting with the Friends of Tower Hill. Had some good discussions about updating the Tower Hill sign. We are looking forward to becoming members and helping with future plantings.

Not sure if there were any crew from Warrnambool Field & Game there, but would love to see those guys join forces with the Friends crew and continue their decades long work.

We really enjoyed our school holiday Budj Bim Cultural Tour. Highly recommended! Learning about the newly discovered eel life-cycle was mind blowing.

The rapid transformation of Tae Rak (Lake Condah) back into a healthy ecosystem shows what is possible when we return a landscape back to indigenous management to heal the scars of colonialism.

Tower Hill is not a Game Reserve, it is an significant indigenous cultural site.

On the Global Day of Parents we honour the Gunditjmara parents who pass on their knowledge, stories and traditions to their children. They are the guardians of our culture, instilling pride and wisdom in future generations. Come and see how their teachings allow us to care for our Country today.
