A HUGE THANK YOU TO WIRES, Woolworths & Southern Refrigerated Transport!

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to WIRES for their extremely generous donation through the Round 6 Food Support Grants Program.

Made possible through WIRES thanks to the support of Woolworths, this wonderful program helps thousands of wildlife carers across Australia with the ever-increasing costs of feeding our precious native wildlife.

As a volunteer-run, not-for-profit wildlife shelter, food costs are a significant ongoing expense, especially when caring for so many hungry mouths, from tiny orphaned glider joeys to our recovering adult wildlife kangaroos. Every bit of support makes a genuine difference!

But the kindness doesn’t stop there!

We would also like to send a HUGE THANK YOU to the amazing team at Southern Refrigerated Transport in Strathmerton, who kindly transported this order all the way from Sydney to us FREE OF CHARGE!

This incredible gesture saved us hundreds of dollars in freight costs, meaning those funds can instead go towards purchasing the specialised animal formulas and feeds our precious wildlife need to survive and thrive. For a completely volunteer-run shelter, savings like this are absolutely invaluable!

Thank-you for standing behind wildlife carers and helping us continue our vital work, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Your generosity reaches far beyond a delivery of food — it helps us give vulnerable native animals the care, nourishment and second chances they deserve.

Thank you to everyone who has donated this week. Your generosity means so much!

A friendly reminder: please check with the shelter before donating linens to ensure they’re needed. A red & white bag of items currently at our front gate isn’t suitable for our needs. If the owner could please collect it, we’d greatly appreciate it. Thank you for understanding!

🐨 One minute conducting a traffic stop. The next, escorting a wandering koala off the Murray Valley Highway.

Thankfully this furry pedestrian made it home safely.

With children back at school, it's a timely reminder that hazards can appear when you least expect them. Slow down, stay alert and take extra care on our roads & around school zones. 🚸🚔

🦆A LITTLE DUCK, A BIG HAPPY ENDING! 🦆

A few weeks ago, some wonderful police officers were out on patrol when they spotted something on the road that needed their help. It was a little duck who had been hit by a car, lying on her back, frantically moving her legs but unable to right herself or move to safety.

Without hesitation, the officers turned around, stopped, carefully wrapped her in a towel and called our Wildlife Hotline.

When this little girl was handed over to me, she was dazed, confused and had a little blood on her. I immediately noticed she wasn’t one of our usual duck species, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on what she was!

Thankfully, after just a few short days in care, she was doing brilliantly!

As luck would have it, our wonderful volunteer rescuers Tahlia and David were at the shelter, so I asked if they could return her to where she had been found, near the Numurkah wetlands.

And just look at her go! As you’ll see in the video, Tahlia released our little girl and she happily made her way back onto the water where she belonged. A beautiful sight and the outcome we always hope for!

Mystery solved…. Our little patient turned out to be a female Hardhead Duck — a native Australian diving duck!

A HUGE thank you to the police officers who stopped, checked, called and respected this little life. Your quick actions gave her the chance to recover and return to the wild.

And thank you to Tahlia and David for making sure she got safely back to where she belonged.

From a frightening moment on the road to happily swimming free again — this is what teamwork, compassion and caring for our wildlife look like!

STOP. CHECK. CALL. RESPECT.

🧺This Week’s Wildlife Wishlist!🧺

Spring is here and we are needing to replace some well-loved essentials to keep our wildlife babies happy and comfortable!

These everyday items become feeders, drinkers and sometimes even cosy artificial nests for our precious animals.

Every donation helps us care for wildlife in need. Thank you for supporting Dutch Thunder Wildlife Rescue!

Did you know that every species of native wildlife has its own specific teat?

From tiny possums and kangaroos to wombats, flying foxes, gliders and other native babies, the correct teat is so important to ensure they can feed safely and naturally while in care.

We have placed another wildlife teat order to keep our emergency feeding supplies stocked — but these specialised teats can be expensive ($219) and we go through a LOT of them!

If you’d like to help us purchase this order, every donation, big or small, makes a difference and helps us continue caring for the hundreds of native animals that come through our doors.

Help us keep those tiny mouths fed!
