Kogarah Community Services and Bayside Council partnered to celebrate Global Intergeneration Week at Mascot Library.

Student from Kogarah Public School, Blakehurst Public School along with a GrandPal shared reading the book "The Prime Minister Problem" Author Brenton Cullen to the residents of Bethlehem House Kogarah and Ibis Care Bexley, which they thoroughly enjoyed and it was lovely to watch each generation come together.

KCS presented a copy of the book to each school, aged care home and to Mascot Library.

To celebrate Global Intergenerational Week, Kogarah Community Services and Bayside Council are hosting a community event at Mascot Library.

This special session will feature a reading and discussion of the story "The Prime Minister Problem", which explores how young people can connect with older generations to tackle loneliness and build lasting friendships.

Whether you're young, young at heart, or anywhere in between, come along to celebrate the power of intergenerational connection!

26 May, National Sorry Day, National Healing Day

We reflect on the importance of listening to and honouring the stories of Stolen Generation survivors, alongside truth-telling and continuing the journey of healing and reconciliation.

KCS attended Bayside Council National Reconciliation Day at Rockdale Town Hall and had the honour to meet with Aunty Brenda Mattews who shared her story and talk about her book the last daughter, a true story of love, loss and reconnection.

National Volunteer Week is Australia's largest annual celebration of Volunteering, between 18 - 24 May 2026.

It recognises the contribution of millions of volunteers across the country and invites everyone to discover how giving their time and talents can create connection, purpose, and stronger communities.

This year Kogarah Community Services held a Thank you High Tea to our volunteers who have been in our GrandPal program, over the last 6 years. Without the volunteers we would not have had the opportunity to run our Intergeneration GrandPal program.

KCS was also invited to attend the NSW Premier's Volunteer Reception 2026 on Friday 15 May held at Meers Hall, Art Gallery.
Our 4 volunteers that attended have been volunteering with KCS for 5 years.

On behalf of KCS, we wish to thank all our Volunteers and acknowledge their work and invite others to discover the benefits of volunteering.
