This week at Kogarah Parish. Christ is in our midst. ☦️

On Tuesday, June 2, KOY was blessed to welcome His Grace Bishop Chrysostomos of Bukoba and Western Tanzania, of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa, who shared about the flourishing Orthodox mission in Tanzania. 🇹🇿

First, His Grace gave an overview of Tanzania’s geography and history, and spoke of the many faithful servants who laboured there before him, including Saint Chrysostomos Papasarantopoulos, the ever-memorable Archbishop Anastasios of Albania, and others whose missionary work helped establish and strengthen the Orthodox Church in Tanzania.

He then shared the joy of the Orthodox faithful in Tanzania, where churches are filled with children and entire congregations chant together. He also highlighted how growing parishes are supported through the translation of the Divine Services into Swahili and how the establishment of many schools across his diocese is integral to the unity of faith and education. Through personal videos of his flock, we were shown the living Church, where the Gospel is not theory but lived reality.

He encouraged our youth to remain steadfast in their Orthodox faith and Hellenic heritage, reminding us of our responsibility to share the Light of Christ with the world.

On behalf of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, His Grace Bishop Christodoulos of Magnesia expressed heartfelt gratitude for the visit and the blessing brought to our youth. May God continue to strengthen His Grace and bless the missionary work of the Orthodox Church throughout Africa.

This coming Tuesday night, June 9, we have our monthly Divine Liturgy in English.

The Divine Liturgy is where Christ is fully present, and you can come to know Him personally. The talks at KOY serve merely as a bridge to come towards Christ, which truly happens in the mystical services and partaking of Holy Communion.

We encourage you to take this opportunity (with an all-English service for you to understand) to come closer to Him by deepening your relationship with Him in a prayerful setting.

As St John of Kronstadt says: “There is nothing on earth higher, greater or more holy than the Divine Liturgy; nothing more solemn, nothing more life-giving”.

We hope to see you all this coming Tuesday from 7:00-8:30PM at our Parish in Kogarah.

KOY is excited to announce a last minute change for this coming Tuesday, June 2.

His Grace serves as an Orthodox missionary in Tanzania, and will be sharing with us about the mission of the Church in Africa, where Orthodoxy is growing rapidly.

📣 GUEST SPEAKER 📣

Join us for a special evening this Tuesday, May 26, with Sergeant Draz.

With over 20 years of service in the NSW Police Force as both a plain clothes and uniformed officer, Draz has dedicated his life to mentoring and supporting young people across Sydney. As President of PCYC Blacktown and Youth Case Manager at PCYC Parramatta, he has led programs helping disengaged youth overcome crime, addiction, mental health struggles, and hopelessness through mentorship, fitness, education, and community.

In 2014, Draz founded the “Stand Tall” program, empowering young people to build confidence, develop life skills, and strive towards a better future. His work has earned him the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in recognition of his service to youth and the wider community.

Beyond his policing, Draz also serves as President of the Serbian Orthodox Church of St Nicholas in Blacktown, striving to live a life of faith, compassion, and service to others.

Join us on Tuesday night, May 19 at 7pm for Vespers for the Leavetaking (Apodosis) of Pascha, presided over by His Grace Bishop Christodoulos of Magnesia, as we conclude the radiant season of our Lord’s Resurrection.

Following the service, red eggs will be distributed to all, and we will gather for a traditional egg cracking competition, with a special gift for the winner.

The Leavetaking of Pascha marks the final day of the Church’s forty-day celebration of the Resurrection. For the final time, we joyfully proclaim, “Christ is Risen!”, as we prepare to greet the Feast of our Lord’s Ascension.

Come and share in the joy of the Risen Christ as we bid farewell to the Paschal season together. 🤍🙏🏼
