Welcome to our new CEO, Peter Burns!
Peter joined the Bridges family in March 2022. "I'm delighted and privileged to have been chosen to work with Bridges Connecting Communities. Everyone I have met so far is wonderful. The work we do is central to so many people's lives, their well-being and connection to our community. Hope to meet all our volunteers and clients over the next few months!

My immediate priorities are:
1. Adjust the Sails
I'll be working with staff to get to know everyone and adjust rosters & responsibilities.
2. Business As Usual
Each member of our staff team loves their job and does it well. They've agreed to teach me the ropes over the coming weeks.
3. Strategic Analysis
Working with the board, I'll be researching the proposed changes to sector funding and some new transport legislation. I will also focus on ensuring our governance and reporting responsibilities continue to operate smoothly. One of the first things you are likely to see action on is work on our digital strategy, the first draft of which will go to the board at its April meeting.”

t is Victorian Community Transport Week started this week until Thursday 31 March 2022.
This week we celebrate all things Community Transport.
Each year across the state, more than 50 organisations, like Bridges transport 10,000 people with over 250,000 trips, supported by 5,000 volunteers.
So what is community transport?
Check out this video (https://youtu.be/ILFQez8aH80) and you'll see that we are unique. We are not a taxi, nor an uber. We are not an ambulance. Nor are we public transport.
We are by the community, for the community.
If you or your loved one has stopped driving, reach out to us in Knox. We will make sure that you get to your appointment on time – AND wait to take you home again.
Better still, we can collect you to enjoy one of our dozens of social programs, and drop you home afterwards.
CTCTA has created a short video to share widely so we can raise the profile and understanding of this critical service and help everyone get an idea of the look and feel of Community Transport.

Let’s Get Physical!

Exercise & physical activity benefit both the body and mind. Low impact exercises like stretching and strength training are great to help seniors stay healthy and reduce the risk of common age-related problems like bone fractures and joint pain.

Exercise can also help manage stress, anxiety; and depression.

Bridges Connecting Communities offers Social Support activities like Active Groups and Shopping trips to name a few to keep us all moving! Transport is provided to most activities and we request a small fee depending on the activity.

Would you like to volunteer and contribute to keep our senior community active and strong? We need Volunteer Drivers! Phone 03 9753 4577 or email us on [email protected]

Stay Connected! A great way to improve and maintain good mental health and well-being

Time and distance can make it difficult for people to maintain close relationships with old friends, especially as we all age.

For older adults, keeping in touch can help stave off loneliness and feelings of isolation that can lead to depression, as well as mental and physical decline.

Learning how to connect on social media through Facebook, FaceTime or Zoom are just come ways to stay in touch. There’s also setting up a regular schedule for a good old-fashioned phone call.

Did you know Bridges have a digital literacy program? It’s one way to teach older adults how to use these new applications. We have tutorials in place and you can register by
