Community Notice – Cape Jaffa Marina Works

SECCI will commence sand management works at the Cape Jaffa Marina Western beach area in the first week of June, subject to final approvals and weather conditions.

Works will involve land-based excavation equipment removing and relocating sand to help maintain safe marina access and reduce sand buildup entering the marina channel.

πŸ“ Location: Western beach adjacent to the marina (see map/image below)

🚫 Public access to the work area will be temporarily closed during works for safety reasons

πŸ•‘ Works are expected to continue for several weeks, depending on conditions

A huge thank you to all community members, volunteers and supporters who have contributed funding, time and effort to help make these works possible. Your support is helping secure the future of the marina for the wider community. πŸ™Œ

🌊 That’s a Wrap for This Season’s Dredging Campaign 🌊

The Maritime Constructions (MC) dredging campaign for this season has officially wrapped up, with the dredge heading off today. After weeks of solid work at Cape Jaffa, it’s time for the tug to point north and cruise home.

A huge thank you to the MC team for their commitment, professionalism and hard work throughout the campaign β€” and for the additional funding support from Clare Scriven MLC office, which helped make this possible.

Next up: the SECCI crew rolling up their sleeves to tidy up the eastern side… more on that very soon.

🌊 The Dredge is Back at Cape Jaffa! 🌊

Great to see the dredge firing up again this week, now focused on opening the sand trap on the western side of the marina.

The aim is simple: give all that winter‑build‑up somewhere else to go other than straight into the marina.

The team is already chipping away on the west side and making solid progress.

Exactly what we need to help keep the marina open, healthy, and flowing.

Big thanks to Clare Scriven MLC for finding the funding for these works and Kingston District Council for their ongoing support. πŸ™

More updates to come as things move along.

🦈 A Visit from PIRSA Fisheries at Cape Jaffa! 🦈

Cape Jaffa had some special guests over the weekend. The Fisheries Inspectors from PIRSA dropped by to keep an eye on things and help protect our local waters.

They’re out there looking after our fishery and making sure it’s protected for generations to come.
A quick reminder to everyone launching from the ramp or heading out for a fish:

πŸ‘‰ Know the rules
πŸ‘‰ Do the right thing
πŸ‘‰ Help keep this amazing coastline thriving, and the creatures that call it home

πŸ’‘ Fun Fact: Did you know that releasing undersized fish quickly and correctly can boost their survival rate to over 90%? A simple good deed today helps keep the fishery healthy for tomorrow.

Positive update from Council regarding Cape Jaffa Marina. πŸ‘πŸΌ

Council is pleased to advise that it has received funding through the Thriving Regions Fund to undertake additional dredging operations at Cape Jaffa and take advantage of the dredge remaining there after recent annual works.

The activity is expected to create a greater sand trap on the western side of the marina to protect vessel navigation ahead of the 2026/27 commercial fishing season later in the year, while more intensive and sustainable programs continue to be explored.

Council is now coordinating the works program with its contractor Maritime Constructions and expects dredging to re-commence as early as 30 January and in accordance with EPA guidelines for sand transfer placement.

Council is most appreciative of Minister Clare Scriven for her support in making these funds possible and in support of the commercial and recreational fishing sectors and local community.

πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί Happy Australia Day from Cape Jaffa! πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί
The marina is absolutely firing today.
Fresh water, big crowds, and more boats than a BCF catalogue.

Visitors are pouring in from everywhere between Kingston and the Cape, and Cape Jaffa is buzzing.

Whether you’re stretched out on the beach, picnicking around the marina, or out on the water living your best Aussie summer, it’s a ripper place to be.

Huge shoutout to Kingston district council the legends at Maritime Constructions, and of course the SECCI volunteer crew.

Cape Jaffa’s alive thanks to all of you.
Plenty more coming next week on the work happening behind the scenes to keep the marina.

Great to see our local work being recognised πŸ’™

We’re really grateful to Christopher Pyne and the team at Pyne & Partners for their support and for shining a light on the work happening through the South East Coastal Care Initiative across our region.

We’ve been working behind the scenes on some important coastal projects and wanted to share this message with our local community here as well. This work is about supporting our waterways, local industries and recreational users, while protecting the coastal environments that are so important to our region and its future 🌊🌱

Thank you to everyone involved and to our wider community for your ongoing support, we couldn’t do this without you.
