Chloe’s Law is an Australia-wide not-for-profit organization with a mission to

• achieve uniform anti-bullying legislation in all States of Australia
• create awareness of the harm caused by bullying
• promote culture of change in relation to bullying

The Chloe’s Law campaign was started by Chloe’s sister Cassie, just days after the loss of Chloe, who took her own life after years of relentless

physical, emotional and cyber bullying. The campaign began as a plea for law reform to introduce specific anti-bullying laws, including anti-cyberbullying laws in Tasmania, and to introduce stronger penalties for bullying offences. The campaign rapidly grew to encompass all states of Australia, calling for uniform anti-bullying laws in all states, and reform of the current Federal laws. In November 2013 Chloe’s Law presented the Tasmanian House of Assembly with a petition calling for reform of Tasmania’s anti-bullying laws. The petition is the largest spontaneous expression of the will of the people to come before either House in the form of an e-petition. On 1 March 2014 hundreds of people gathered on the lawns at Parliament House in support of that petition, to hear from candidates in the House of Assembly election, and to enjoy performances from local entertainers as a celebration of our progress so far. All three major parties committed to action, and the new State Government has now referred the matter to the Tasmania law Reform Institute. The petition calls for reform to federal anti-cyberbullying legislation, and currently has over 47 000 signatures. The petition can be signed at http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/chloes-law-official-petition-anti-bullying-petition-to-australian-senate.html

Further petitions will be launched in South Australia and Queensland in 2014, and sequentially in other states. The Chloe’s Law campaign broadened rapidly, responding to requests for educational and awareness raising talks, in-school activities, and media commentary. The success of those activities, combined with future plans for educational and counselling services to schools, workplaces, organisations and individuals has seen a rapid growth in the plans for the organization, and gives us great encouragement for the ongoing campaign to create a kinder world through the elimination of bullying.
