🚲 Could you be one of the people who helps someone rediscover the joy of cycling? ❤️

Logan City Council is looking at the possibility of bringing Cycling Without Age to Logan — and we reckon this could be something really special.

Cycling Without Age gives people who can no longer ride themselves the chance to get back on a bike, feel the wind in their face and enjoy their community from a specially designed trishaw.

So we’re wondering — would anyone in the Logan BUG community be interested in becoming a volunteer pilot? 🚲

There’s no commitment at this stage. We’re simply gauging interest.

With several hundred people in our Logan BUG community, we think there could be plenty of people who would love to get behind something like this.

If that sounds like you, give us a 👍 or ❤️, or comment “I’m interested” below.

It would be fantastic to be able to show Council that there’s support within our cycling community.

Let’s see if we can get this rolling! 🚲❤️

Cycling Without Age is a social enterprise charity that addresses social isolation and community engagement for the elderly and this with limited mobility.

Have your say on the Holmview Station Precinct upgrade

Updated designs have now been released for the Holmview Station Precinct as part of the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project.

Of particular interest to Logan BUG are the proposed active transport facilities, including new walking and cycling connections across the rail corridor, links to the surrounding network and secure bicycle parking at the station.

This is an important opportunity to help ensure these connections are safe, direct, accessible and properly integrated with the wider walking and cycling network, not simply isolated sections of infrastructure.

Take a look at the plans and have your say before consultation closes on 5 October 2026:

There's a road near you that you don't ride - because of traffic. 🚴‍♂️ 💥

Researchers in France just spent an enormous amount of data trying to understand that decision.

A study in Transport Policy matched around 6.7 million census observations across mainland France against the cycling infrastructure near where people live and work. Strip out the academic language and the finding is simple: where the infrastructure is, more people ride.

The researchers can't rule out that towns full of keen cyclists simply build more lanes, and they say so themselves. It's French data, and France isn't Ohio.

The detail underneath is the useful part.

Location mattered as much as quantity. In dense urban areas, infrastructure near the workplace did the heavy lifting. In smaller towns, the home end of the trip carried far more weight. Same infrastructure, different job depending on where you put it.

Then there's the limitation the researchers flag, which makes their case stronger rather than weaker.

Their model doesn't fully capture what happens when a network connects. One lane on its own doesn't achieve much. You ride it for half a mile, it dumps you back into traffic, and you're making the same calculation you were making before. Link that lane to a route, and the route to a bridge, and the whole system becomes worth more than the sum of its pieces. The researchers believe this means they're understating the effect.

Safety in numbers is the part that matters most to those of us who ride for pleasure rather than to get to work. More riders on the road makes every rider more expected. The driver who passes cyclists every morning behaves differently from the driver who meets one twice a year.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗴𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗯𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼𝗼. Nobody campaigns for bike racks. But a rider with nowhere secure to leave a bike overnight has a problem no amount of smooth tarmac solves.

None of this settles the argument. People will keep saying there aren't enough cyclists to justify the spending. That's now a little harder to wave off, because you can't count the riders who aren't there yet.

In the Netherlands, 84% of people have a supermarket, GP and primary school within five minutes of their front door.

But new research by Argaleo for Provincie Noord-Brabant also shows that 2.8 million people still have at least one daily service further away. This is where the bicycle, and especially the e-bike, can make a real difference.

For many of these people, an e-bike brings schools and supermarkets within a 15-minute ride. It shows why safe, direct and comfortable cycling routes are not just nice to have. They help people reach care, education and shops without needing a car.

Have your say on Beenleigh Station 🚉

There’s an opportunity right now to help shape the future of Beenleigh Station as part of the Logan & Gold Coast Faster Rail project.

The updated design is now open for community feedback, and the project team will be hosting drop-in sessions where you can ask questions, view the plans and share your thoughts.

📍 Drop-in sessions:
• Thu 7 May (9am–12pm & 3pm–7pm) – Beenleigh Marketplace
• Sat 9 May (9am–1pm) – Logan Lightning Football Club
• Wed 13 May & Sat 16 May (9am–12pm) – Beenleigh Library

Projects like this are a real opportunity to get the basics right — safe, direct and connected access for people walking, bicycle riding and catching public transport.

Good station design isn’t just about the platform — it’s about how easily people of all ages and abilities can get there in the first place.

Feedback is open until 31 May 2026.

We’d strongly encourage the community to take a look and have their say — this is exactly the kind of project where early feedback can make a real difference.https://hdp-au-prod-app-qldtmr-yoursay-files.s3.ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/1617/7674/6922/20260421_LGC_Beenleigh_Design_Update_A3_web.pdf

Big news in the Logan 2075 Plan 🚴‍♂️🚌

One of the key goals is that by 2075, 60% of peak trips will be made by public or active transport. That’s a big shift toward a more connected, accessible and liveable Logan.

We’re excited to see this direction, and keen to understand how Council plans to make it happen.

A strong start would be funding, like allocating at least 5% of the roads budget to active transport, as outlined in our recent budget submission. Over time, that investment will need to grow to match the ambition.

Now the focus turns to the “how”, safe, connected infrastructure that makes walking, riding and catching public transport the easy choice for everyday trips.

What would help you or your family choose active or public transport more often?

Thirty years of evidence from major cities shows the same thing: build protected bike lanes, connect the network, and calm traffic — and more people ride while streets become safer.

Paris went from under 1% of trips by bike to 11%. Berlin now sees 1 in 5 trips by bicycle.

Logan has the opportunity to do the same. 🚲
