In the Netherlands, 84% of people have a supermarket, GP and primary school within five minutes of their front door.

But new research by Argaleo for Provincie Noord-Brabant also shows that 2.8 million people still have at least one daily service further away. This is where the bicycle, and especially the e-bike, can make a real difference.

For many of these people, an e-bike brings schools and supermarkets within a 15-minute ride. It shows why safe, direct and comfortable cycling routes are not just nice to have. They help people reach care, education and shops without needing a car.

Have your say on Beenleigh Station 🚉

There’s an opportunity right now to help shape the future of Beenleigh Station as part of the Logan & Gold Coast Faster Rail project.

The updated design is now open for community feedback, and the project team will be hosting drop-in sessions where you can ask questions, view the plans and share your thoughts.

📍 Drop-in sessions:
• Thu 7 May (9am–12pm & 3pm–7pm) – Beenleigh Marketplace
• Sat 9 May (9am–1pm) – Logan Lightning Football Club
• Wed 13 May & Sat 16 May (9am–12pm) – Beenleigh Library

Projects like this are a real opportunity to get the basics right — safe, direct and connected access for people walking, bicycle riding and catching public transport.

Good station design isn’t just about the platform — it’s about how easily people of all ages and abilities can get there in the first place.

Feedback is open until 31 May 2026.

We’d strongly encourage the community to take a look and have their say — this is exactly the kind of project where early feedback can make a real difference.https://hdp-au-prod-app-qldtmr-yoursay-files.s3.ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/1617/7674/6922/20260421_LGC_Beenleigh_Design_Update_A3_web.pdf

Big news in the Logan 2075 Plan 🚴‍♂️🚌

One of the key goals is that by 2075, 60% of peak trips will be made by public or active transport. That’s a big shift toward a more connected, accessible and liveable Logan.

We’re excited to see this direction, and keen to understand how Council plans to make it happen.

A strong start would be funding, like allocating at least 5% of the roads budget to active transport, as outlined in our recent budget submission. Over time, that investment will need to grow to match the ambition.

Now the focus turns to the “how”, safe, connected infrastructure that makes walking, riding and catching public transport the easy choice for everyday trips.

What would help you or your family choose active or public transport more often?

Logan 2075 is a bold, long‑term vision for how the city will grow, change and thrive over the next 50 years.

Thirty years of evidence from major cities shows the same thing: build protected bike lanes, connect the network, and calm traffic — and more people ride while streets become safer.

Paris went from under 1% of trips by bike to 11%. Berlin now sees 1 in 5 trips by bicycle.

Logan has the opportunity to do the same. 🚲

⚠️ Action needed to protect safe and practical e-bike use in Queensland

The Queensland Government is considering recommendations from the recent e-mobility inquiry that could introduce:

• Licensing requirements for legal e-bikes
• Age limits
• 10 km/h speed limits on footpaths and shared paths

Shared paths are a key part of our active transport network. Very low speed limits could discourage riders from using them and push people onto the road network, where interactions with motor vehicles carry far greater safety risks.

Many of the safety concerns driving this inquiry relate to illegal high-powered e-motorbikes, not legal pedal-assist e-bikes.

The report also includes positive recommendations we support — such as greater investment in safe, separated infrastructure and stronger enforcement against illegal devices.

Please take two minutes today to email your local MP and the Transport Minister.

🚲 Logan BUG members and local riders — have your say.

The Queensland Parliament is seeking community feedback on e-mobility safety and use, including e-scooters, e-bikes and other personal mobility devices.

If you ride bikes, use shared paths, or care about safer active transport in Logan, this is a good opportunity to make sure our voices are heard.

Submissions are open now 👇

A continuous active transport corridor alongside the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project isn’t a “nice to have”, it’s essential infrastructure.

It provides safe access to stations, schools and surrounding communities for people walking, riding, scooting and using mobility devices.

Two sections have been removed from the design without public consultation.

We need your help to ensure the promised pathway is delivered in full.

The Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project was meant to deliver a continuous Active Transport Corridor alongside the rail line — a safe cycling route connecting communities from Kuraby to Beenleigh. But two key sections of bikeway have now been removed from the project design, without public consultation. Bicycle Queensland is calling for the corridor to be reinstated in full — and we need your help.
