This week we welcomed some mainland guests to have a look through our facilities. We’re incredibly proud of what we do to support the community—every day, our team works hard to make a real difference.

But the thing that left the biggest lasting impression was our volunteers.

We’ve always believed that when you give your time to volunteer, it should feel good—because you’re not just giving back, you’re also coming in to share banter, connect with people, and be part of a genuine team atmosphere. With 90% of our volunteers retired, that workplace-style interaction matters even more than most people realise. Many of our volunteers truly miss that daily connection—so it means so much to hear how much they enjoy coming to work.

We’re so proud that our volunteers love being here, and that they’re recommending the role to friends and family. This month we also welcomed 3 new faces, and we’re thrilled to have you join us. Welcome to the team—your energy and warmth are already making a difference.

Today we’re reminded that our work is powered by community spirit. Donations come in from our community every day, and that support helps us keep our doors open and assist people who are doing it tough.

We’d love to share this special artwork—proudly donated by the children at the Norwood Lady Gowrie Child Care Centre. Thank you for your kindness, creativity, and generosity. It truly means a lot to everyone at Launceston Benevolent Society.

Head to the Riverside Community Centre and check out some lovely art work. Kaz Hutchinson has her first showing, we are the lucky society, who will benefit from sales of this artwork. A fantastic gesture from Kaz 😊

Such generosity, a massive donation of food items to add to our can drive. Officially starting in July, but all donations gratefully accepted.
The members of the Probus club have been donating annually, and each year they excel.

A huge thank you to Launceston Preparatory School for another outstanding can drive effort!

Last year they set a record with 26 boxes—and this year they absolutely smashed it with 40 cartons collected! What a fantastic achievement for such a tiny school.

This year our GM Karen and trusty volunteer Jen were invited along to chat with the students. The energy in the room was amazing—students were engaged, asking great questions, and connecting food to people who need it.

Parents, teachers and the community should be proud of the effort and the heart behind it. Inquisitive young minds, big impact.

The increased cost of basic essentials has hit our society twofold:

Our costs have risen—the price of the goods we supply has increased.
More people need support—40% of our clients have either never needed assistance, or haven’t needed it for 2+ years.

To help cover these rising costs, we’ve introduced our Monthly Giving Plan.

How it works:
A one-time registration, then your donation is automatically deducted from your account. You can cancel anytime!

Please consider supporting those in our community who are struggling.

Kaz Hutchison is an artist and illustrator known for evocative mixed media creations.

She was born and raised in Tasmania, and her work draws on the “wild beauty” of the island—misty forests, waterways, and local flora and fauna.

Her illustrations for the Undercover Coco books began as hand-painted originals.

Her paintings explore nature not just as what we see, but as what we feel—including themes like beauty and menace, tension and harmony, stillness and movement.

In June she will be holding an exhibition at the Riverside Community Precinct.

We are very humbled that she has offered to support our society with this exhibition.

Go along and check out the incredible work she will have on show.

Exhibition: Between Wing and Wind
Dates: 5 June to 26 June 2026
Venue: Windsor Community Precinct, Riverside
