📢 Zonta Kiama-Shellharbour is standing up for women's reproductive rights.

We oppose the Abortion Law Reform Amendment (S*x Selection Prohibition) Bill 2025, which risks creating barriers to safe, legal healthcare and undermining women's rights in NSW.

We support evidence-based policy, accessible healthcare, and the right of women to make their own reproductive decisions.

🧡 Women deserve healthcare, not political interference.

💜 Early intervention is key to prevention 💜

We recently had the privilege of meeting with some of the team from Illawarra Women’s Health to present the funds raised by our hardworking Zonta members at our Bunnings BBQ fundraiser.

Centre Coordinator Bonnie shared how these funds will help support the Young Women’s Program — a highly regarded initiative that holistically supports girls and young women, empowering them to make informed choices about their lives, bodies, and relationships.

The program creates important conversations that help develop strong, independent young women who can build a safer future for themselves and their community. It supports girls aged 12–16 by building resilience and developing the skills, knowledge, and confidence to understand and protect themselves across critical areas including:
✨ Domestic, family and sexual violence
✨ Mental health
✨ S*xual and reproductive health

Sadly, Bonnie also shared that due to funding shortages, parts of the program have recently had to be scaled back. Despite this, the dedicated team continues this vital work through existing staff and programs that are already stretched.

Zonta Kiama & Shellharbour recognise the importance of this work and remain committed to supporting initiatives focused on education, empowerment, and prevention. As Domestic Violence Prevention Month comes to an end, we want to remind our community that prevention starts with education and early intervention.

If you are able to support Illawarra Women’s Health and the incredible work they do, every contribution makes a difference. 💜

💛 Community Care in Action 💛

Kathleen Wurth, the Palliative Care Nurse for the Dungog and Maitland areas, was very grateful to receive breast care cushions lovingly made by the Zonta Club of Kiama–Shellharbour.

These cushions are designed to provide comfort and support to people recovering from breast surgery, and we are proud to continue supplying them to hospitals and health services across NSW.

A special thank you to Kay Cope, one of our newest members, for kindly delivering the cushions.

May is Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month 💜

Domestic and family violence affects individuals, families and communities across Australia. Prevention starts with awareness, respectful relationships and the willingness to speak up and support one another.

Every person in our Kiama and Shellharbour community can play a role in helping create change. Small actions can make a meaningful difference:

💜 Share information about local support services
💜 Learn where help is available in our community
💜 Have conversations about respectful relationships
💜 Support local awareness events and campaigns
💜 Challenge attitudes that excuse or normalise violence

Together, we can help build safer, kinder and more respectful communities for everyone.
