💜 Early intervention is key to prevention 💜
We recently had the privilege of meeting with some of the team from Illawarra Women’s Health to present the funds raised by our hardworking Zonta members at our Bunnings BBQ fundraiser.
Centre Coordinator Bonnie shared how these funds will help support the Young Women’s Program — a highly regarded initiative that holistically supports girls and young women, empowering them to make informed choices about their lives, bodies, and relationships.
The program creates important conversations that help develop strong, independent young women who can build a safer future for themselves and their community. It supports girls aged 12–16 by building resilience and developing the skills, knowledge, and confidence to understand and protect themselves across critical areas including:
✨ Domestic, family and sexual violence
✨ Mental health
✨ S*xual and reproductive health
Sadly, Bonnie also shared that due to funding shortages, parts of the program have recently had to be scaled back. Despite this, the dedicated team continues this vital work through existing staff and programs that are already stretched.
Zonta Kiama & Shellharbour recognise the importance of this work and remain committed to supporting initiatives focused on education, empowerment, and prevention. As Domestic Violence Prevention Month comes to an end, we want to remind our community that prevention starts with education and early intervention.
If you are able to support Illawarra Women’s Health and the incredible work they do, every contribution makes a difference. 💜
