🐋 The Humpback Highway is Open! 🐋

Right now, one of nature’s most incredible journeys is taking place just off the Kiama coastline. Thousands of majestic humpback whales are making their annual migration north along the famous Humpback Highway, travelling from the icy feeding grounds of Antarctica to the warm waters of Hervey Bay and Wide Bay, Queensland, where they will breed, calve, and nurture the next generation.

For residents and visitors alike, Kiama is one of the best places to witness this spectacular event. There’s nothing quite like seeing a humpback launch itself from the ocean in a breathtaking breach, or spotting the tell-tale misty blow on the horizon.

🌊 Take some time this season to stroll along Kiama’s beautiful coastline, visit the headlands, the Blowhole, or one of our many coastal lookouts, and keep your eyes on the sea. You never know when a whale might put on a show!

Whether you're a keen whale watcher, photographer, or simply looking for a peaceful day by the ocean, the annual whale migration is a reminder of the amazing wildlife that passes right by our doorstep.

We deal with wood and get this question alot .
What is the difference between softwoods and Hardwoods?
👀DID YOU KNOW?

🪾Hardwood trees are usually flowering plants (angiosperms). They produce flowers and then seeds, often enclosed in fruits or nuts. Examples include Oak, Eucalyptus, and Maple.

🌲Softwood trees are usually conifers (gymnosperms). They do not produce true flowers. Instead, they reproduce using cones that contain seeds. Examples include Pine, Spruce, and Fir.

🍎WHAT ABOUT FRUIT TREES?🍑

👍🏿However, there are exceptions:

Some hardwoods don't have obvious flowers.
Some softwoods, such as Yew, produce berry-like structures rather than typical woody cones.

Also, the terms hardwood and softwood refer to the tree's botanical group, not necessarily the hardness of the timber. For example:

Balsa is a hardwood but has very soft wood.
Yew is a softwood but has quite hard, dense timber.

😎So as a general rule:
Hardwoods = flowering trees. Softwoods = cone-bearing trees. But nature always provides a few exceptions.
