The Spring Vale Lodge No. 389 - The Master's Last Night

Monday, 24th August 2026
An unforgettable, momentous evening at the South Eastern Masonic Centre as The Spring Vale Lodge held its August Stated Meeting - in honour of the Master's Last Night for our Worshipful Master, WBro. Mason Tavita, and the obligation of the Master Elect, Bro. Chin Uba, ahead of our upcoming Installation!

77 Freemasons were in attendance, including Grand Master, MWBro. Peter Henshall - with 12 Worshipful Masters on the Road, an Official Visit from Lodge Plaridel No. 1893, and strong support from Travels Washington Lodge No. 9 and Lodge Cathay No. 38, as well as many Past and Present Grand Lodge Officers, Past Masters and Brethren.

A Heartfelt Reflection from the Chair

In his final valedictory address, the Worshipful Master delivered an inspiring, emotional and moving speech reflecting on a remarkable year of leadership, fellowship, and growth:
"...And as I stand here tonight, in the late hour of the setting sun on my time as Worshipful Master, and look back upon the year that I've had, I can genuinely say with content, and without reservation: I have no regrets, not one. It has been my sincere honour, to serve you all..."

With a packed South and an abundant festive board consisting of an all-you-can-eat charcoal BBQ buffet, bottles of very fine single malt scotch on every table, warm toasts, joyous laughter, and great fellowship carried on long into the night!
To all our guests who joined us to celebrate our Master's culminating meeting in the chair, thank you for your continued camaraderie and support.

Education Night & Fraternal Fellowship at Spring Vale Lodge No. 380
What a fantastic June Stated Meeting we had! This month, our focus was firmly on Masonic Education—a night dedicated to expanding our knowledge and ensuring each of our brethren understands the deep importance and pride of proving themselves in their respective degrees. As a highlight of our educational focus, we were treated to a brilliant presentation of the First Degree Tracing Board.
Freemasonry thrives on strong bonds and visiting across the constitution, and we were honored to welcome a wonderful turnout of visiting brethren!

-WM Vana Tran and the brethren of Blackburn United Lodge.

-WBro David Alexander, Past Master of Keysborough Lodge.

-WBro Andrew Farquhar, Past Master of Gardenvale Mobility Lodge.

-WBro Ted Wambui Past Grand Sword Bearer (PSwdB)

APRIL 2026 STATED MEETING - INITIATION OF BRO. JAMES MATTHEWS

We were pleased to welcome members and visitors to our April Stated Meeting for the First Degree Initiation of our newest member, Mr. James Matthews.

The First Degree represents a significant milestone, marking a candidate's formal introduction to the principles of Freemasonry. Focused on the pursuit of knowledge, self-improvement, and moral rectitude, this ceremony serves as the foundation for Bro James’s future progress within the Craft. We congratulate Brother James on taking his first steps into the fraternity and look forward to his continued development.

The evening was further distinguished by strong fraternal support from our visiting brethren. We extend our sincere thanks to those who attended, including:

Berwick Balcara Lodge No. 359: 4 Master Masons, 2 Entered Apprentices, and 1 Past Master.

Keysborough Lodge No. 912: Worshipful Master, WBro Kane Alexander.

The presence of our visiting brethren greatly contributed to the success of the evening, exemplifying the enduring fellowship and collaboration that defines our jurisdiction.

Spring Vale Lodge No. 389 Stated Meeting on 25 May 2026, highlighted by the Third Degree Raising of Bro Ryan Tomalon and Bro Paul Pereira — a significant and meaningful milestone in every Mason’s journey as they were raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason.

The Third Degree is regarded as one of the most profound experiences in Freemasonry, teaching important lessons of integrity, perseverance, fidelity, humility, and the value of brotherhood. It reminds every Mason of the importance of living a life of honour, remaining steadfast through challenges, and continuing the pursuit of knowledge, truth, and self-improvement. As newly raised Master Masons, Bro Ryan and Bro Paul now continue their Masonic journey with deeper understanding, greater responsibility, and a stronger connection to the Craft and its teachings.

The evening also featured an insightful Third Degree Education presentation by WBro Andrew Gleeson, who reflected on the Working Tools of the First, Second, and Third Degrees and the moral lessons they impart throughout a Mason’s journey.

Also included in the evening’s work was the Declaration of Master Elect for Bro Chin Uba for 2026-2027

Master Mason Certificates were presented to:
Bro John Pipo, Bro Kutz Mancilla, Bro Chester Sarsoso, Bro Nic Balatico, Bro Harold Bautista, Bro Edison Crisologo, and Bro Goodluck Onwukwe.

The Brethren and visitors later enjoyed a delicious buffet and warm fellowship in the South, continuing the spirit of brotherhood shared throughout the evening.

We were honoured to welcome the following Visiting Worshipful Masters:
• WBro Steven Doyle – Liberton Lodge No. 1201, Edinburgh, Scotland
• WBro Vana Tran – Blackburn United Lodge No. 915
• WBro Matthew Palamera – United Schools Lodge No. 941

As well as visiting Brethren from:
• Berwick Balcara Lodge No. 359
• Keysborough Lodge No. 912
• Creswick Havilah Lodge No. 26
• Moorabbin Lodge No. 161

Thank you to all Brethren and visitors who attended and contributed to another successful and meaningful evening in Freemasonry.

Freemasons Victoria

19/12/2025

Today we had the absolute honour of celebrating RWBro. Ivan Bill Z Warner OAM PSGW ahead of his official 100th Birthday on December 23rd!

From patrolling the streets as a police officer to leading our city as Mayor (three times!) and mentoring us at Springvale Lodge No. 389 for over 75 years—Bill has dedicated his whole life to this community. It was wonderful to come together with the Victorian Police Veterans to mark this incredible upcoming milestone.

Bill, thank you for your service, your stories, and your friendship.

Another great December Stated Meeting at Spring Vale Lodge 389.

We were honoured to welcome MWBro Anthony Bucca, who joined us in the South and kindly presented service awards on behalf of the Lodge:

• 40-year pins to Bro Brian Legg and WBro David Buss
• A 50-year certificate to WBro Bill Gardiner
• A 60-year jewel to WBro George Madden

What was meant to be a quick presentation turned into a memorable and lively conversation — proof that good company makes time fly.

We then enjoyed a fantastic BBQ supper generously catered by Bro Anthony Naddaf, with no one going home hungry.

We were also pleased to welcome our international visitors, Steven Doyle from Edinburgh and John Clark and his wife Suzanne from England.

The Lodge was proud to present a $10,000 donation to the Springvale Benevolent Society, made possible through the support of Freemasons Foundation Victoria, helping vulnerable families in our local community.

With over 70 adults and 20 children in attendance, it was a wonderful way to close out a great year for Spring Vale Lodge. A special thank you to Tammy for beautiful decorations and organisation

A night of fellowship, charity, and celebration.

Spring Vale Lodge 389 — Stated Meeting | 24 November 2025

What a fantastic night at Spring Vale Lodge 389!

🎉Congratulations to Bro. Paul and Bro. Patrick on taking their Second Degree. Both Brethren demonstrated excellent proficiency, showing they were truly ready for their next step in Freemasonry.
During the ceremony, the charges were beautifully delivered by our Master Masons — something our elder members were delighted to witness. Seeing younger Brethren confidently performing the work reflects the true passion in learning and passing down Masonic knowledge.

🤝 Fraternal Visits
We were honoured to welcome WM Jason Liddle and members Cranbourne Freemasons visiting with him, as well as an official visit from Keysborough Lodge, led by WM Kane Alexander and his officers and members.
With 56 Brethren in total, the South was absolutely abundant!
We also had two prospective candidates join us for the night. It was great to share with them the warmth and fellowship of our Lodge.

🍽️ Festive Board Highlights
Another amazing buffet was served — complete with hommus, fresh salads, a variety of charcoal barbecued meats, and a spread of delicious desserts and fruits. A big thank you to everyone involved in preparing such a wonderful feast.

Brotherly Love & Laughter
The South was filled with fun, laughter, and genuine brotherly love — a true reflection of the spirit of Freemasonry at Spring Vale Lodge 389.

Thank you to everyone who made the night a memorable one.
