Thank you to everyone who came along to hear Star Chorale's sold-out Advent Sunday concert at Holy Trinity Kew today. It was wonderful to sing and play to a packed church, and it was lovely to hear so much positive feedback from audience members present who enjoyed the wide range of musical offerings on offer.

Congratulations to all the performers, including the members of the choir who sang beautifully, our wonderful soprano soloist Eliza Bennetts-O'Connor, the incredibly talented members of our outstanding chamber ensemble, accompanist extraordinaire William Schmidt, and of course our conductor and MC Andrew Wailes, who keeps raising the musical bar, and introducing performers and audiences alike with to so many new and interesting musical works.

A big thank you to all those who assisted with Front of House duties today, and of course, to all those who baked treats for everyone to enjoy at the afternoon tea afterwards. It was a terrific way to end the year!

Here are a few images from today's concert.

Star Chorale will be back rehearsing in February, and new members are always very welcome to join! If you'd like to be part of the fun next year, please email [email protected] for more information, or visit the choir's website: www.starchorale.org

MEET OUR FEATURED SOLOIST!

Star Chorale is thrilled to welcome the young emerging soprano Eliza Bennetts-O'Connor as featured soloist at our "Glorious Advent" concerts on Sunday 30th November.

As a classically-trained singer, Eliza has performed with some of the state's finest companies across a range of concert, opera and early music repertoire. A graduate of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, Eliza holds both a Bachelor of Music (Classical Voice) and a Master of Music (Opera Performance). During her studies, Eliza’s artistry and development were recognised and supported by the Francis Quinn Arts Excellence, Margaret Schofield Memorial and the Murray Ormond Vagg Scholarships.

In 2024, Eliza was selected as an Emerging Artist with The Song Company, and was invited back in 2025. Recent performance highlights include Belinda in 'Dido and Aeneas' (Purcell), Tytania in 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' (Britten), Cupid in 'Venus & Adonis' (Blow), as well as appearing as the soprano soloist in works such as 'Rejoice in the Lamb' (Britten) and 'Gloria' (Vivaldi). In 2020, Eliza was a principal artist for the Victorian Opera initiative, 'Baby Bilby Loves to Sing', an interactive children's storybook. Alongside her performance pursuits, Eliza is also one of the core members of the St. James Old Cathedral Voices, performing a wide range of sacred repertoire.

Earlier this year Eliza was chosen as the winner of the Conductor's Encouragement Award in the 2025 Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Aria Competition, and was also a winner at the 2025 National Liederfest, and will appear in the Liederfest Prizewinners' Recital in November.

Eliza is also a teaching artist. She works extensively with children, teaching singing, piano, performing arts and music theory. She values the reward of teaching and working with children, finding their energy and development inspiring.

Hear Eliza perform music by J.S. Bach, Georg Philipp Telemann and others at Star Chorale's "Glorious Advent" concerts on Sunday 30 November at Holy Trinity Kew.
