A well-established and friendly community choir dedicated to a tradition of musical excellence in the performance of choral music, the Star Chorale is a community based ensemble of approximately 50 voices based in the Melbourne suburb of Kew, under the direction of award-winning conductor Andre
w Wailes. The choir is also fortunate to have an outstanding accompanist in William Schmidt. The Star Chorale was oroginally founded by Jane Elton Brown, former Director of Music at Methodist Ladies College, Kew (PLC), and the choir includes - but is definitely not limited to - past students, staff, family of students or friends of MLC. Rehearsals are held in excellent facilities at Methodist Ladies' College on Tuesday evenings, from 7:30 to 9:45pm. There are no auditions, and new members are currently soughts in all sections, particularly sopranos and basses. There are generous discounts available for students. Off-street parking is available. The choir performs several programs a year, often accompanied by professional orchestral players and soloists, and proudly collaborates with other local ensembles to present major works which in 2024 will include Schubert's "Stabat Mater" and "Mass No.2 in G Major", Kristian Hernes' "Canticle of the Sun", Antonin Dvorak's "Te Deum" and John Leavitt's "Missa Festiva" (to be performed in St Paul's Cathedral).
