Which character would you choose and why?? As Guide leaders, we cover many of these characters and we do it with pride. 🥰

Big impact starts with one person saying ‘Yes!’ 🌟

At Girl Guides, volunteers help girls and young women grow in confidence, take on challenges, build friendships and discover their potential – and it all starts with people willing to show up and make a difference.

You don’t need to have all the answers or endless free time to volunteer. Sometimes, the smallest moments of encouragement can leave the biggest impact. ☀️🌈✨

If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, this could be your sign to start the conversation. Because big impact really does start with you.

National Volunteer Week is here, and we’re celebrating the incredible volunteers who make Girl Guides possible. 💙

Every week, across NSW, ACT & NT, our volunteers show up with kindness, creativity, encouragement, and heart — helping girls and young women build confidence, make lifelong friendships, and discover what they’re capable of.

This year’s theme, “Your Year to Volunteer”, is a reminder that one decision to get involved can make a lifelong difference for a girl finding her place in the world.

To every Girl Guides volunteer: thank you for the time, care, and passion you give so generously. This week is all about celebrating you and the impact you make every single day.

To our Leaders and District Managets of Ruse District: Brown Owl, Paddington, Possum, Rosetta, Wombat and Tinkerbell & Nutsy, we praise you and thank you for your endless support and love to Guides and the girls under your care 🥰

Guide leader: “Tonight we’re learning survival skills.” ⛺🔥

One Guide, with absolute confidence:
“I have the survival skills of a pickle.”

And honestly… the self-awareness was inspiring. 😂

This is the same generation that will pack 14 skincare products for camp but forget a towel, a sleeping bag and occasionally common sense.

Luckily at Guides we teach important life skills:
✨ How to light a fire
✨ How to put up a tent
✨ How to survive outdoors
✨ And apparently… how to emotionally support the pickles among us

To be fair, pickles are preserved for emergencies. 🥒

If you are interested in learning these skills, have fun and many laughs please email our District Managers Elizabeth and Mary Ann on [email protected]

My favourite part of camping?
It’s not the songs, or the toasted marshmallows, or even the moment the girls finally stop asking when dinner is.

It’s somewhere between 6 and 7am.
✨That sacred hour when the sun is just beginning to rise
✨ Every tent is blissfully silent, and even the loudest snorers have finally tapped out.
✨I sneak out, fire up the kettle, and sit there with a cup of coffee, wrapped in a blanket, listening to birdsong and pretending I’m in a peaceful nature documentary

It is calm. It is beautiful. It is heaven.
And it lasts exactly seven minutes.

Because right on cue, a tent zip goes:
ZZZZZZIIIIIPPPPP
Followed by a small voice whisper-shouting,
“Rosetta… I can't find my jacket, Rosetta what is for breakfast? Rosetta what are we doing today??”

Peace destroyed.
Day officially begun.
And honestly?
I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Which is why I always laugh at the strange looks I get at work when someone asks,
“Any plans this weekend?”
And I cheerfully reply,
“Oh, just taking teenagers camping!”

They stare at me like I’ve announced I’m going lion-taming for fun.
Meanwhile I’m thinking about that perfect 6am sunrise cup of coffee and smiling like a person who’s made… questionable life choices, yes… but very happy ones.

Guiding: chaos, kettle steam, tiny pockets of peace, and memories worth every single strange look.

💐 Happy Mother’s Day to our incredible Guide Mums! 💐
Behind every thriving Guide… is a mum who’s doing a lot more than she lets on 😅
To the mums who:
💙 Drop off, pick up, and somehow always end up helping out “just for a minute” (which turns into the whole night!)
💙 Put their hand up at events, BBQs, camps and fundraisers — because they know it makes it all possible
💙 Quietly cover the costs so their girls can go on camps, adventures and make the best memories
💙 Wash muddy clothes, unpack bags that were “definitely clean,” and tackle the post-camp chaos like champions
💙 Go to bed with campfire songs stuck in their heads… “ain’t no flies on us…” on repeat 🎶😂
And a very special shoutout to our Leader Mums — the ones juggling everyone else’s daughters while still being there for their own 💫
Plus their incredible girls, who are:
✨ First to arrive
✨ Last to leave
✨ Experts at waiting patiently while mum packs up, finishes conversations, and does “one last thing”

You are the quiet heroes behind the scenes, the loudest cheerleaders, and the reason Guiding feels like home for so many 💙
We see you, we appreciate you, and today we celebrate you.
Happy Mother’s Day 🌸
