There were plenty of furry friends joining the fun at Peep Playgroups last week, as Jo and her co-facilitators Mel, Julie and Rachael hosted teddy bears’ picnics across the week!

Families brought along their favourite teddy bears and cuddly companions to enjoy picnic treats, songs, stories, play and lots of smiles. The sessions were filled with imagination, connection and playful fun, creating special memories for children and families alike.

We hope all the teddy bears had as much fun as we did! 🧸🧺

At bedtime, while changing a nappy, or during play, talk to your
little one about all the different things you do together over the
day. Ask simple questions, or turn your everyday adventures into
a story.
‘Remember when we got caught in the rain?’, ‘and then after
lunch we went to the library!’
Pause between sentences, giving your child space to respond
with their own additions, even if it’s just a smile!
These simple back-and-forth conversations are the building
blocks of their development – strengthening your bond and
creating lasting memories.

Playgroup SA Whyalla facilitators, Fiona and Evette, have been celebrating National Reconciliation Week through connection, learning and community with their playgroups.

Across her playgroups, Fiona creates welcoming spaces where families can come together to share experiences, build relationships and learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories in meaningful and age-appropriate ways. Through storytelling, art, music, conversations and play, children and families are encouraged to develop respect, understanding and a sense of belonging.

The work happening in Whyalla highlights the important role playgroups have in strengthening community connection, supporting inclusion, and bringing families together through shared experiences.

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to reflect on how we can contribute to reconciliation in our everyday lives.

At Playgroup SA, we recognise the importance of creating welcoming and inclusive spaces where children and families can connect, learn and grow together. Through play, storytelling, cultural experiences and community connection, we can help children build respect, understanding and appreciation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures from an early age.

This National Reconciliation Week, we encourage families to take time to listen, learn and walk together toward a more connected future.

The theme for this year’s National Sorry Day is From Sorry to Action. The call is clear, we must move from words to action, and this needs to happen now, not in another decade.
Acknowledging past harm is important, but acting to address it is critical. Sorry signals compassion, action delivers justice.
We encourage you to mark National Sorry Day on 26 May, and to stand with us to ensure this day is part of an ongoing commitment to truth-telling and healing.
