Three women, one century of kindness

Cody-Lee Lutter has been volunteering at Fassifern Aged Care for 18 years since she finished school, from pamper sessions, bus trips, singalongs and everyday chats.

Anne Andrews started playing piano for residents after seeing the impact music had on her grandson, who lived with cerebral palsy. At 90, she still leads singalongs every week, and after a nursing career and more than 30 years of volunteering, she often knows residents' favourite songs because she cared for them years ago. 🎢

Alongside them is Maureen Hancock, who answered a newspaper ad more than five decades ago asking for someone to take a resident for a drive, and never stopped.

Together, these three women bring more than a century of volunteering to Fassifern. Aren’t they amazing? πŸ’›

Ram, Bernie, Lenny, and Don's growing friendship.

Lunch at the Blue Fin is quickly becoming a bit of a tradition for Ram, Bernie, Lenny, and Don.

There's always a handshake first, before they settle in and start chatting like old friends.

Bernie and Don had the chicken rissoles and mash, Lenny went for the Tandoori chicken wrap, and then on to a game of pool, as always. 🎱

What started as a few small catch-ups has become something the group looks forward to every week.

Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day - a day to stand together for respect, safety, and dignity for older people in our community.

Elder abuse can take many forms, including financial, emotional, physical, or neglect and it’s often experienced in silence. But no one deserves to feel unsafe, unheard or unsupported.

At its heart, this day is about connection, awareness, and action.

Celebrating Italian National Day πŸ’šπŸ€β€οΈ
The Stanthorpe region has deep Italian roots. Families who arrived in the 1940s and 60s built their lives here.

This week, our team at Stanthorpe Aged Care marked Festa della Repubblica with a morning tea in Lantern Hall. There was antipasto, homemade savoiardi, panettone, lasagna, osso bucco, and a crowd favourite, tiramisu. One of our residents also led the room in a few traditional songs.

At Stanthorpe, culture doesn't stop at the door. It's part of how we live together.

102 years and still "very much herself".
Last weekend, Clara marked her 102nd birthday surrounded by her children and her Stanthorpe Aged Care community. Her family say she is well and still very much herself in thought and conversation, which is a joy to see. Join us in wishing Clara a very happy birthday!

Congratulations, Clara. What a milestone. πŸŽ‚πŸŽˆ

Marjorie recently turned 93. But her birthday wasn't the only reason to celebrate. May also marks 50 years since Marj co-founded the Brisbane Doll Club, and she's been part of it ever since.

Some of the club members came to Moonah Park Aged Care to mark the occasion with her. They presented her with a 50th anniversary badge, and spent some time reminiscing. Marj said it was a morning she'll never forget.

Happy birthday, Marj! 🌸 The club, the collection, and the memories you've helped preserve are a legacy to celebrate.

Today marks the end of Reconciliation Week, a time of reflection and acknowledgement of both the historical and present-day experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This week, and every week, we consider how we can contribute to a future shaped by understanding, respect, and justice as an expression of our faith in action to show that were "all in".

Scripture reminds us that through Christ, God made reconciliation possible and entrusted us to actively pursue restoration, healing, and unity in our relationships and communities.

β€œAll this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.”
β€” 2 Corinthians 5:18 (NIV)

National Volunteers Week celebrated across our homes. πŸ’›
Last week our teams at Fair Haven Maryborough and Little Mountain took time to honour the volunteers who give so much to our communities.

At Fair Haven Aged Care Maryborough, volunteers gathered for a beautiful afternoon tea and each one took home a gift in appreciation of their service.

Seven volunteers joined us at Little Mountain Aged Care for a special lunch. The cake on the day was made by our very own kitchen cook.

Our volunteers show up week after week because they care. We are proud to care for them in return.

Drop a πŸ’› in the comments to say thank you to our volunteers.

'Yassou' from Oak Towers!

Oak Towers Aged Care is proud to have a strong Greek community.

You hear it in the corridors. β€œKalimera” in the morning, β€œYassou” at the door.
You taste it in the kitchen: spanakopita, moussaka, pastitsio, and yayas debating the correct recipe.
You feel it on Thursdays when the Greek Cultural Group gets together over Greek coffee and the Zorba.

This is what belonging in Victoria looks like.
The comfort of being surrounded by people who understand your culture, your traditions, and your story. πŸ’›

Good things are baking 🧁

At Stanthorpe Aged Care, the baking sessions are small and regular.

Cupcakes, brownies, chocolate cake, all the goodies. Everyone participates and the sprinkles are taken seriously.

For most residents, baking is a skill they've carried their whole lives. Those skills still have a place here, because using them enriches their day and brings a sense of happiness and achievement.

This is what meaningful lifestyle care looks like. πŸ’›
