Today marks the conclusion of an era as Captain Tony Hackenberg retires after 42 years of distinguished service with Kempsey Fire and Rescue.

Tony’s journey began on 15 October 1984. Throughout his career, he rose steadily through the ranks, dedicating himself to protecting, serving, and educating the Kempsey community and beyond.

After serving as Deputy to Captain Peter Hinchcliff in 1993, Tony made history in 2010 when he was appointed as only the sixth Captain of Kempsey Fire and Rescue since 1910.His exceptional contributions were recognised on a national level on 9 June 2014, when he was appointed an Australian Fire Service Medal (AFSM) for distinguished service.

To the members of Station 345, Tony has been more than a leader; he has been an inspiration. It has been a profound honour and a privilege to work alongside him.

We thank him for his lifetime of service and wish him the very best in his retirement.
