In 1950, a 28-year-old was appointed the President of BAPS. But instead of assuming power, he folded his hands and took a lifelong vow of absolute service. 
 
Today, we remember Pramukh Swami Maharaj taking that historic oath to his guru Shastriji Maharaj - promising to serve society tirelessly, without any regard for his own comforts. 
 
For the next 66 years, he became the living embodiment of servant leadership, proving that true leaders don’t command from above; they uplift from the ground. His universal motto, “In the joy of others lies our own,” continues to inspire millions, including our volunteers right here in Sydney.

Today marks the beginning of Bikram Sambat 2083, the Nepali New Year.

Since the opening of the BAPS Swaminarayan Cultural Precinct in Kemps Creek, we’ve had the joy of welcoming Nepali families who come to visit, learn, and experience the mandir.

It’s a reminder that a place of worship can also be a place of connection - across cultures, traditions, and backgrounds.

On this auspicious day, we honour Hanumanji - a timeless example of strength through devotion.
Born to Mata Anjani and blessed by Vayu, Hanumanji shows us that true power is not measured by what we achieve for ourselves, but by how we serve with humility and faith.

His unwavering devotion to Shri Ram, his courage in crossing the ocean, and his humility despite divine abilities make him the ideal devotee.

As we reflect on Hanumanji’s life today, may we all find the strength to serve with the same dedication and devotion.
