A Psychologist, local business owner and a proud dog dad to three, Luke from Yankalilla is one of this year’s volunteer ambassadors.

With experiences in disability and the aged care sector, Luke was looking for a way to give back to the community when he began volunteering at SAAS.

“Joining SAAS as a volunteer has given me the chance to learn life-saving skills and maintain a sense of calm in high-pressure situations. Every shift is different, and there is an incredible sense of fulfillment in knowing that my training can make a real difference in someone’s worst moment,” says Luke.

“I want to show young people that volunteering is the essential 'next step' in their journey, providing them with crucial skills,” he says.

Meet Katie, our volunteer ambassador for Maitland. Katie is originally from New Zealand, a mum to two and also works as a cook at a childcare centre.

Passionate about volunteering, Katie is actively involved in the community and has had stints volunteering with the Cancer Council and Royal Flying Doctors Service in Mount Gambier.

“Volunteering is about being able to support the community in times of need and it is incredibly rewarding. I want to show my kids that even in small towns big things can be done and there is always opportunity to give back to the community.”

Describing her partnership with fellow volunteer ambassador Hayley from Maitland, Katie says “You are never alone at SAAS, and you always have someone to back you up.”

A farmer by profession, Ben from Keith is one of this year’s volunteer ambassadors.

Originally, from Kangaroo Island, Ben saw a need for more volunteers in his community, prompting him to join SAAS.

New to Keith, Ben says “Volunteering helped me integrate into a community and as a farmer, it has also allowed me to help people.”

“I believe if I can make volunteering with SAAS work around a busy work schedule others can too,” says Ben.

G’day everyone.
Given that this is my first post as one of the Volunteer Ambassadors for the 2026 “Join the Team in Green” volunteer promotion campaign, I thought I should introduce myself.
My name is Ben Murray, I’m a 26-year-old farmer from the Upper South-East and I volunteer with the SA Ambulance Service, stationed in Keith. My volunteering journey started in Goolwa. I also spent a year on Kangaroo Island before relocating to Keith for work. At most regional volunteer stations around the state the story is the same, we need more to “Join the Team in Green”. I’m proud to have been given the opportunity to showcase why I and many of my fellow volunteer team members absolutely love what we do. Whilst aiming to inspire as many new volunteers as possible, I’m also looking forward to sharing some insight into the training and benefits that come with what we do. My decision to join has easily been one of the best commitments I’ve made, and it’s had an immensely positive impact on my life. I am honoured to be there to serve the people in my community during some of their most difficult times.
