Friday 22nd May saw another 3 members of VMR Karumba receive their National Service Medal. Congratulations to Geoff Moore, Col Kemp and Bill Knight. They join Rob Jones and Kyra Hill as being recognised as long term active volunteers with VMR. This means that 5 of our 10 members have now received recognition for volunteering for 15 years or more in our small remote unit. As it was National Volunteer Week, it was a perfect time for a celebration. This is an achievement we are proud of. Not just for the giving of their time, but for the vast knowledge they all bring to the unit with over 200 years of combined local knowledge and sea time.
While we hope that you stay safe on the water and never need us, our volunteers guarantee that you will receive the highest standard of maritime assistance.
Thank you to Karumba Lodge Hotel Motel Caravan Park for the wonderful dinner and atmosphere. Thank you to Mayor Jack for coming up and acknowledging the years of service. Thank you to Dave and Dan from MRQ who had a well timed visit as we transition to from VMR to MRQ (Marine Rescue Queensland). And thank you to all our volunteers and their families for their dedication and unwavering commitment to keep our waterways safe.

What a fantastic layout for a special night with VMR volunteers. Thank you Karumba Lodge Hotel.

We extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends and fellow volunteer crew mates of Marine Rescue Ballina. There will be a large void from losing such dedicated and selfless volunteers. Fair winds and following seas. You can rest in peace, your watch is done. ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”
