A small bridge with a much bigger community impact. 💙

Yesterday morning, we joined KBSS and St Paul’s Primary School Karratha for the official ribbon cutting of a newly fabricated bridge, designed to help students safely access the school’s new after-school care facility.

When St Paul’s identified a need to minimise the risk to students accessing the facility, they reached out to local business KBSS for a solution. KBSS responded by putting their local expertise and capability to work, designing and fabricating the bridge for the school.

It’s a great example of the role local businesses play beyond the services they provide every day.

Our business community is part of the broader Karratha community. When local businesses share their skills, expertise and resources to solve local challenges, the benefits flow through to our schools, families and community as a whole.

Congratulations to KBSS and St Paul’s Primary School on a fantastic local collaboration, and thank you for inviting KDCCI along to celebrate the official opening. 👏

What a fantastic evening at last night’s Business After Hours, proudly co-hosted by Pilbara Kimberley University Centres (PKUC) and Karratha Senior High School (KSHS). ✨

Guests came together at the PKUC Karratha Study Hub for an evening of networking, new connections and a closer look at the important role education plays in the future of our region.

PKUC is helping make higher education more accessible right here in the Pilbara, providing local students with study spaces, technology and face-to-face academic support while they study with Australian universities.

Karratha Senior High School is also creating pathways from education into further study, training and employment, with students able to access VET qualifications, school-based traineeships and workplace learning across a broad range of industries.

As Principal Ashley Eversden highlighted on the night, when we talk about developing our future workforce, we shouldn’t overlook the young people who are already here.

For local businesses, there is a real opportunity to connect with our schools, share knowledge and explore work experience, traineeships and other ways to give students exposure to local career pathways. These partnerships can help young people see a future for themselves in the Pilbara while helping businesses develop the skills and workforce our region will need. KSHS identifies partnerships with industry and community as an important part of preparing students for employment and further study.

And we saw some of that capability firsthand on the night! A huge congratulations to the talented KSHS students who performed live music and prepared and served the fantastic food for our guests. 👏

Thank you to Ashley Eversden from KSHS and Jacinta Homann from PKUC for sharing their insights, and to both organisations for hosting such a memorable evening.

🌅 Connecting around tourism in the Pilbara

Sarah and Carly joined tourism operators, industry partners and regional stakeholders this week for the Australia’s North West Industry Mingle, followed by the Pilbara Tourism Industry Business Breakfast this morning.

Tourism is an important part of a diverse regional economy, creating opportunities for local businesses while showcasing the people, places and experiences that make the Pilbara unique.

It was a great opportunity to connect with people across the industry, share perspectives and continue conversations about the opportunities and road ahead for tourism in our region.

Thank you to Australia's North West for bringing the industry together and creating space for these important conversations.

The more we connect tourism with local businesses and regional opportunities, the more value we can create and keep here in the Pilbara. ❤️
