🚨 EXTREME FIRE DANGER RATING - CENTRAL COAST 🚨

The Central Coast LGA is forecast to experience an Extreme Fire Danger Rating on Saturday, 5 September 2026, while the Lake Macquarie LGA is forecast to experience a High Fire Danger Rating.

🔥 TOTAL FIRE BAN IN PLACE 🔥

A Total Fire Ban will be in effect across the Central Coast. All fire permits are suspended.

With hot, dry and windy conditions expected, fires can start quickly and become difficult to control. Now is the time to review your bush fire survival plan and remain vigilant.

⚠️ If you see an unattended fire, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

🌿🔥 Spring is here — now is the time to prepare.

As the weather starts to change across the Central Coast District and we head towards the warmer months, take 5 minutes now to look around your home and make sure you’re prepared.

You don’t have to live in the bush for your home to be at risk from bush fires.

We’ve seen the devastating impact bush fires can have right here on the Central Coast.

In December 2025, a devastating bush fire swept through Koolewong, Phegans Bay and Woy Woy Bay. Fueled by hot and windy conditions, the fire spread with alarming speed, burning more than 129 hectares.

🔥Small and often silent, embers can travel well ahead of the main fire and cause devastating damage to homes.

There are simple steps you can take now to help protect your home:

🏡 Clear your gutters
🌿 Mow your lawn and trim your garden
🌳 Cut back overhanging branches
🍂 Remove leaves and other flammable materials around your home
📚 Know and discuss your Bush Fire Survival Plan
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Get your family and community prepared

🚒 NSW RFS Training Exercise at Kariong APZ 🚒

On Saturday 25 July, NSW RFS Central Coast Volunteer Groups 5 and 7 will be conducting a large-scale training exercise in the Kariong APZ (Asset Protection Zone) near local residential properties.

📍 Training will commence at 9:00am from the Kariong Fire Control Centre on Woy Woy Road and continue until approximately 4:00pm.

During the exercise, residents may notice: ✅ Fire trucks operating in the area
✅ Pumps running and water being applied into the bushland
✅ Emergency warning lights activated
✅ Occasional use of sirens and vehicle horns

This important training helps our volunteers maintain the skills and readiness needed for the upcoming bush fire season.

⚠️ For your safety, please keep a safe distance from all training activities and follow directions from NSW RFS personnel.

We thank local residents for their understanding and support while we conduct this valuable training.

🚨 Structure Fire Response - Somersby 🚨

Earlier today, Kariong Rural Fire Brigade responded to a structure fire in Somersby, with both brigade appliances responding to the incident.

Arriving first on scene, crews were met with a locked electric driveway gate and quickly forced entry to gain access to the property. Firefighters immediately deployed in Breathing Apparatus (BA) and commenced firefighting operations, bringing the fire under control promptly.

We were well supported by additional crews from both the NSW Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW, with excellent teamwork and cooperation ensuring a successful outcome.

A big thank you to all crews involved for their professionalism, dedication and hard work.
