Kariong Rural Fire Brigade Kariong Rural Fire Brigade is a volunteer fire brigade of the Central Coast District of the NSW Rural Fire Service.

The Kariong Rural Fire Brigade is a dedicated volunteer unit within the NSW Rural Fire Service, serving the Central Coast region of New South Wales. Based at 4a Dandaloo Street, Kariong, the brigade plays a vital role in bushfire prevention, emergency response, and community safety education. Established in response to the growing fire risk in the Gosford area, the brigade has evolved into a trusted local institution. Its members trained volunteers from the community respond to bushfires, structure fires, motor vehicle accidents, and storm-related emergencies. They also contribute to hazard reduction burns, fire safety awareness campaigns, and support for neighbouring brigades during major incidents. More than just first responders, the Kariong Brigade fosters strong community ties through public events, school visits, and seasonal celebrations. Their presence is a reassuring symbol of preparedness, resilience, and service. Whether battling blazes or hosting a Halloween party for local families, the Kariong Rural Fire Brigade embodies the spirit of volunteerism and the strength of community.

Before Christmas arrives, Santa and his wonderful elves love getting out into the community and spreading a little festive cheer. If you would like Santa to visit your kindergarten, preschool, community group, workplace, event, or anywhere else you can think of, we'd love to hear from you.
The more notice you can provide, the better, as it helps us plan Santa's busy schedule and visit as many people as possible.

🚒 Get Ready for Bushfire Season with Kariong Rural Fire Brigade! 🚒

Bushfire season is just around the corner, and now is the perfect time to make sure your family, home, and property are prepared.

Join the members of Kariong Rural Fire Brigade at the Koolewong Boat Ramp to chat about bushfire preparedness, creating a Bush Fire Survival Plan, and simple steps you can take to stay safe this season.

🚨 Bush Fire Danger Period Starts Tomorrow – 1 October 🚨

From tomorrow, 1 October, the statutory Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) begins across NSW Rural Fire Districts, marking the start of the bushfire season and increased restrictions on the use of fire in the open. The BFDP generally runs through to 31 March, although dates can vary depending on local conditions.

As the weather warms and vegetation dries out, it's important that everyone plays their part to reduce the risk of accidental fires.

🔥 Planning to burn? Know the rules:
✅ A Fire Permit is required for most open-air burning during the Bush Fire Danger Period in Rural Fire Districts.
✅ Fire Permits are free and can be obtained through the NSW Rural Fire Service.
✅ You must provide at least 24 hours' notice to your neighbours and the NSW RFS before lighting up.
✅ The fire must be supervised at all times, and permit conditions must be followed.
✅ Permits are automatically suspended on Total Fire Ban days, no burning is permitted under a suspended permit.
✅ Additional restrictions may apply through your local council or environmental regulations, so always check before burning.

⚠️ Heavy penalties apply for breaches of fire permit conditions or allowing a fire to escape.

Before lighting any fire, check local conditions, current fire danger ratings, and whether a Total Fire Ban is in place.

Prepare now, stay vigilant, and help keep our communities safe this bushfire season.

📢 Come and See Us at Bunnings West Gosford! 🚒🔥

As we prepare for the upcoming bush fire season, members of the Kariong Rural Fire Brigade will be at Bunnings West Gosford on Saturday, 19 September from 10:00am as part of the Get Prepared Day event.

Our volunteers will be on hand to provide advice and answer your questions about: ✅ Preparing your property for bush fire season
✅ Creating a Bush Fire Survival Plan
✅ Reducing hazards around your home
✅ Emergency preparedness for your family and pets

This is a great opportunity to learn how you can better protect your home, family, and community before the fire season arrives.

🎟️ We will also be selling raffle tickets for your chance to win an Emergency Preparedness Kit, packed with useful items to help you and your family stay prepared during emergencies.

Tickets are $2.50 each or 5 for $10.

🔥 A Busy and Successful Weekend for Our Brigade 🔥

After celebrating a very successful couple of 80th birthday celebrations on Saturday, 17 members of our Brigade were back on the ground yesterday assisting with a Hazard Reduction Burn at Mount Penang Gardens.

It was fantastic to see several members step outside their comfort zones and take on leadership roles throughout the operation. Members stepped up to run the burn, as well as act as Sector Leaders and Crew Leaders, demonstrating the depth of skill, commitment and teamwork within our Brigade.

The burn was completed safely and successfully, achieving all planned objectives. We thank all members involved for their professionalism and dedication.

🚨 Community Notice: Residents may notice smoke in the Mount Penang Gardens area over the next couple of days as burnt vegetation continues to smoulder. This is normal following a hazard reduction activity.

Why are Hazard Reduction Burns Important?

Hazard reduction burns play a vital role in reducing the amount of fuel available to bushfires. By carefully burning accumulated leaf litter, grass, shrubs and other vegetation under controlled conditions, we can:

✅ Reduce the intensity and spread of future bushfires
✅ Help protect homes, properties and critical infrastructure
✅ Improve firefighter access and safety during bushfire operations
✅ Assist in creating safer conditions for our local communities
✅ Support the long-term management of bushland and the environment

These planned burns are an important part of preparing for the bushfire season and helping to keep our community safer.

🎉 Thank You for Celebrating 80 Years With Us! 🎉

What an incredible day as we celebrated 80 years of service to our community.

A huge thank you to Gosford RFS Catering Unit , Uke Man and the band, Patricia the face painter, and the Central Coast Volunteer Rescue Association - VRA for donating your time, energy, and support to help make our celebration such a success.

Most importantly, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our wonderful community. Seeing so many people come out to celebrate with us, sharing smiles, laughter, and creating lasting memories, made the day truly special. It was a delight to see everyone enjoying themselves and being part of this important milestone.

Thank you for your continued support over the past 80 years. We are proud to serve such an amazing community and look forward to many more years together. ❤️🚒

Today’s the day! Happy 80th Birthday Kariong Rural Fire Brigade,

Our station doors are wide open. The free BBQ is running. The jumping castle is running hot and plenty of things going on.

If you havnt made plans for today or have a free moment. Drop on down to our station in Dandaloo Street and say Hi to our volunteers who protect our community, grab a free sausage and a fire plan and have a chat how you can prepare yourself and family.
