Milly's Search, Trap and Reunite

Milly's Search, Trap and Reunite Bringing Australia the very first Missy Trap to help in the humane capture of scared and frightened pets.

Our trap is different to the normal box traps as it is made from a large dog run making it more inviting to those scared souls. https://www.facebook.com/groups/MillysSearchandTrapGroup

Hi everyone,

First of all we would like to thank all of you for your support and generosity. We are Milly's Search, Trap and Rescue Inc. Our founding members were brought together while assisting in the search for 2 dogs.

Milly (a.k.a. Angelina) was a rescued Beagle who escaped her first time foster carer at Mt Elliott in 2019. For 3 weeks we assisted in the search ending tragically when Milly was found some 10km away on the M1.

The other case many of you may know is Bu Bu. This rescue Jack Russell had us on the run for 5 months turning up on both sides of Wyong Rd and in Mingara Athletics track. Unfortunately, tragedy struck again in April 2020 when Bu Bu's luck ran out crossing Wyong Rd. It was during this time we met Lyn and Dakota who gave us the support and courage to build Australia's first Missy Trap.

It is for these two beautiful rescues our group banded together and formed a specialised search and trap group dedicated to the search, trap and rescue of lost animals.

The first use of our Missy Trap was for Lilly in August 2020 and this is where we met Tracey. Tracey trusted us and our trap to assist in the safe capture of this frightened Silky Terrier.

Since that day we have helped dogs from Cranebrook to Lismore.

We officially received our NFP Registration as an Incorporated Association on the 15th January, 2021.

Now, with pleasure, Mark and I would like to introduce the people behind Milly's:

President: Mark McDougall.

Vice President and Fundraising Co-ordinator: Tracey Fitzsimmons

Secretary: Jo-anne Wright
Treasurer: Mark McDougall

Again, thank you for your support and encouragement. You have all made our group what it is today.

Mark our president - Mark is currently our only male team member, who has to put up with all these women with complex and very different personalities, good luck Mark. Mark is a nice and patient guy who quietly goes about getting things done.

Tracey our Vice President and Fundraising Co-ordinator - Tracey , hmmm, well what can we say. A fighter, a dog whisperer, with a big smile, laugh and heart. Don’t let the smile or laugh lull you into believing she is a push over. She is the team bodyguard, the one we push first through the scary gates and darkness.

Jo our Secretary - Jo is our oldest team member. But don’t let that fool you. She runs rings around us younger folk. Tenacious and doggedly determined. A little dirt and some leeches doesn’t deter her. Ok maybe the leeches do a little.

CAN YOU HELP US RAISE SOME FUNDS?

For well over a year now we've held steady going from strength to strength in our own way. We have helped many families reunite with their babies. We have helped many strays off the streets.

Our vision remains true, to assist as many displaced animals in whatever way we can to ensure their safety.

We often spend hundreds of dollars in a week on fuel to drive to animals, for food to help anchor these animals and ongoing maintenance of our cage traps and camera traps. This money comes from our own pockets. We don't mind, this is what we love doing!

But, heres the stickler. We need to move forward and are reaching out to our awesome followers for a little help. The current thermal drone we utilise is not always available to us in Western Sydney as it is located at our main branch on the Central Coast. We need our own. But they are costly. We will look at a Go Fund Me if that is a better option, but thought we would try our luck with a simple post and simple request.

Can you help us reach our goal of raising $5000 to purchase a new drone and the associated licences and insurances?

We know times are tough for everyone, but we also know we don't often ask for financial assistance for our cause and people often ask where they can donate so this is your chance! $1, $2 even $10 would be a massive help to us!

If you'd like to help us out, please share this post to as many as you can. If you are financially able, find following our banking details to deposit funds to..

🤍🐾 ZEUS’S STORY 🐾 🤍
Zeus a young Staffy mix had a horrible start to life. He was living on a property where he was tied up in the back yard, scared, sad, with hardly any shelter, all alone 😔

Mid November 2024, a lovely plumber was working on the property one day and the owners asked if he wanted Zeus, as they didn’t want him anymore. He contacted his friends and told them about him, and without hesitation they jumped in the car and went and saw Zeus.

Zeus was scared to leave because even though his life was horrible, they were the only people he knew and it took some time to get him in the car. Zeus’s new owners had a small child and a baby on the way, and even though their hands were full, they just couldn’t leave Zeus there.

Unfortunately within a few hours of Zeus being in his new home exploring the back yard, Zeus found a spot in the fence and escaped.

Zeus was seen at a little quarry site and then seemed to have found safety at a Golf Course.

His new owners placed food for him every day through the golf course fence. We obtained permission from the Golf Course to enter and with the help of an amazing local named Brad and Zeus’s new owner, food was being placed daily creating a feeding routine.

The Missy Trap was set up, and we proceeded to condition Zeus to it. We would often watch Zues on camera hanging out with foxes, the babies would follow him, he seemed to enjoy their company 🦊❤️

Unfortunately Zeus disappeared and after 4 long days, he turned up back at the quarry site again.
Zeus knew he could get food there, as the amazing truck drivers previously left food for him every day the first time he was there.

With the permission from the quarry site, help from Brad and the Truckies we quickly set the trap up. We decided to set the trap that night, we knew Zeus would go in, especially with all the yummy food, and he was caught that night, 6th December 2024.

Zeus became quite anxious and with the help from Alistair from Vets For Compassion who took my late night SOS call, Jason arrived and gave Zeus some sedation to relax him so he could be safely transported.
Jason, kindly offered to take Zeus home and safely drive him the next day to MAAWS in Castlemaine.

MAAWS, who we cannot thank enough, opened their hearts to Zeus agreed to take him, rehabilitate and give him the best chance at a new life.

🧸 Zeus is such a sweet boy, after everything he’s endured, he has come leaps and bounds and is still waiting at MAAWS for his forever home. It is sad 😔 knowing that after 8 months, he is still there, although happy, he would be much happier in the loving home he so deserves.

If anyone here feels they can give Zeus his forever home, please contact MAAWS, Zeus’s bio link is below ⬇️

A lot of people were involved in helping Zeus, the amazing community, the Golf Course and Quarry site, Vets For Compassion, his new owners and one kind and dedicated individual, Brad. We cannot thank everyone who helped and supported Zeus enough 🙏

Another one home safe.

This little lady had just started her life in her forever home when she decided to go and explore the neighbourhood without permission.

Missy was out missing for nearly a week. Even though she only knew her new home for a month she did keep returning at night. Unfortunately she was too scared for her new owners to secure her.

We received a call on Thursday by the owner’s asking for our group’s help. It was decided we would take a camera over on Friday to be set up,
She never showed in front of the camera. On Friday night, we went back to set up the trap.

No sighting of her.

Saturday night she did come to the trap yet did not go in it. She was seen lying on the bed beside the trap which was so cute.

Sunday no sightings at all.

Tonight we decided to swap the traps over and place our biggest drop and run trap in.

As we arrived we saw Missy coming towards us so we quickly backed up as not to further scare her. We then watched as she went down a side street.
We then continued to the house to place up the trap.
Trap was up at 7.22pm and Missy was safe in the Trap at 8.22 pm.

We would love to thank the Wagstaff community for the support and help that they gave to Missy’s very worried owners.
You were all amazing.

To Missy’s owners thank you for trusting us to help with your beautiful girl.

To Missy, welcome home.❤️❤️

📣 Important Announcement from the Milly’s STaR Founding Team

There have been some big changes behind the scenes as we move towards our Annual General Meeting next month. After 5 incredible years of shared passion and purpose, we want to share that Lyn – one of our co-founders and long-time committee member – is stepping away from the Milly’s STaR committee due to health and personal reasons.

Lyn is a true animal lover, one who’s departure from our group will be felt for some time. We will be forever grateful for what she has helped us create here. This includes designing visuals, posts and our website, moderating on Facebook, doing posters and offering heartfelt advice to countless owners and volunteers.

We’re proud of the work we’ve done together and wish Lyn continued success and good health. Her contribution to Milly’s legacy is permanent, and we’ll always be cheering her on. It’s not goodbye. It just may be a little different.

With thanks and respect,

The Committee at Milly’s STaR
