On Tuesday 18th August, the Vietnam War Commemorative Service will be conducted by RSL SA at the Vietnam War Memorial, adjacent to the Torrens Parade Ground, Adelaide, commencing at 2pm. There is an open invitation to veterans, families, ADF members, Vietnamese community and public. Car parking will be available. https://www.rslsa.org.au/vietnam-commemoration

Following this the Vietnam Veterans Federation SA will hold the annual 3pm Reflection Ceremony at the same venue.

Check with local organisers for information about other regional and metropolitan commemorations.

Tomorrow, 18 August, we commemorate Vietnam Veterans’ Day on the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan in 1966.

The Vietnam War was Australia’s longest military engagement of the 20th Century, with almost 60,000 Australians serving during a decade of conflict between 1962 and 1972. About 3,000 Australians were wounded during the war, and 524 died during their service in Vietnam or as a result of that service.

Tomorrow, we gather to say thank you.

There are many ways to get involved and pay your respects. Check with your RSL State Branch or local Sub-Branch to find out what commemorations and events are happening near you on Vietnam Veterans’ Day.

Friday 7th August
We've been down and checked out the roadworks and we are going to open tonight. There is a section of the bunting between the orange traffic bollards in the front of the Thrift shop which will provide access to the footpath and then to the RSL. The footpath is level.

We look forward to your company tonight from 7pm.

About 40km into a 500km mission, Nancy Wake said her legs felt "like hot lead". She still had hundreds of kilometres to go, and couldn't look exhausted because German patrols might become suspicious.

It was 1944, and French Resistance leader Nancy had volunteered to undertake an intense bicycle ride through Nazi-occupied France to restore contact between the Resistance and London after vital communication links were lost.

Despite the brutal feat she was undertaking, exhaustion was a luxury she couldn't afford to show. German patrols and checkpoints dotted the route, and any sign that she was undertaking an unusual journey could attract unwanted attention. Instead, she rode on, maintaining the appearance of an ordinary woman going about her day while carrying a mission that would help reconnect resistance forces with their allies.

It wasn't the first time that Nancy, known to her enemies as 'The White Mouse', would evade capture due to her boldness in the face of danger.
